I blew up the hoses in the tank to the dual walbros while I was there. Every time I started it it wouldnt hardly fire up. Got home and wouldnt start at all last night, and had no fuel pressure. Pulled the unit and had ruptured hoses. You can compare them if you want, but its two totally different setups that work differently, and mine is still having problems. I dont even hardly keep the slips anymore cause 11.30 for my setup isnt worth a damn. I ran 11.60's on motor. It fell off in the 1/8th cause I melted a brand new belt. I didnt have time to break it in there, so I just put it on and went to cranking and it messed it up in one pass

I do have efi line in the tanks, always do. And its the second time its done it. We retuned it today. And its on 2 bar os now. I think its good for a 10sec pass, but idk how deep in there. It did run good in the 1/8th, and after that it fell off comparing it to the slip before. This was after the new belt. Got done and it looked like bubble gum. Pulled the sending unit today and one hose completely blew off one of the pumps. I am gonna go back soon and see how it does. I say I am done with go fast parts but hell I am liable to buy heads and another intake if I dont like how the car does. Just have to see what she does. Shes dialed in now as good as it can possibly get without playing and making minute changes on a dyno. I really wanna build a shop now for it cause I am supposed to get a lift from a neighbor in a month or so. All I really want is a 12 bolt and a 4l80e with a brake.

Chris,
Should be 11.5 when at wot. It read 11.5 - 11.8 last night. Not sure why it was different for you today. Unless, of course, you looked right when you got on it or right when you got off of it, or right at a shift point or you didn't have belt slip like you did last night, or didn't have second fuel pump on, or blew a fuel line, etc. :eyes: Last night, you reached 161 kpa, not 171 kpa....just fyi. Like I said last night, the boost was sporadic. Like you have belt slip or something similar. More than happy to do some more tweaking for you when you're ready. (but you're coming to me next time...:D)

hmm well 161 is even worse lol. Wired both pumps on continuously and tightened the belt this morn. Watched the gauge through several wot pulls, 12.5 the whole time. If fueling went to 12.5, then that's why she feels slow. I know we were in the 11s with afr last night. The only thing different from when we were tuning and now, is that I turned LTFTs back on. Maybe I need to turn them back off for the fueling to be the way it was while we were tuning.

I wouldn't sand them down. Whoever welds them will want them sanded their way. I usually take a thin grinder wheel to the spots that need to be welded. Takes 5 secs. You could likely pull up to just about any muffler shop and they could zip em on for you real quick.
Say fellas long time no see! Well anyways i have this Mcloud flywheel still sitting at my house resurfaced and all was gonna ask in here because i dont want to ship it. $100obo. So how is everyone these days?
anyone know of a ls1 Trans AM for sale? feeling froggy to buy another one...
Wow  Coming outta the woodwork.
Those are Cog belts.
I want more than anything to have this thing running ASAP.
How did you ever come out? Cam bearings ok? Did you ever run it with the new pump?
A few more thrown belts and I will make the switch to a cog. I just gotta get things ironed out. I am leaning mostly to the pos intercooler if have
Seems like an intercooler leak would be constant and not intermittent. But that's just me guessing.

SIC...you're a big meanie! Cody is feeling good about his car....let him feel that way. Besides, I've heard of a heads cam C6 ZO6 run slower at the Shreveport Track. Track conditions, DA, etc all play a factor.
Chris....had a thought about your afr this morning. Maybe, since you tightened your belt up yesterday, you actually started making some good boost, and I haven't been able to calibrate your afr under high boost yet (since we didn't see it while tuning). Once you get a working boost gauge on there, we'll know better what's going on (so you and I aren't driving back and forth (Longview to Shreveport) over and over again for troubleshooting.) If you were under high boost yesterday and you were only getting 12.5 afr, the car would feel weak. (so maybe things finally started working). Get a boost gauge on there, then run while watching boost and afr, then let me know.

Not sure yet. I'm in like a 2 week span of exams at school so play time is hard to find.
The front and rear cam bearings are good. I've asked a buddy to borrow his inspection camera but I hate bothering people even though he's said he would. I'll probably go buy one in the next couple of days so I can inspect the inner 3 cam bearings.

And if they check out....what's your next move?
That's the question I am thinking about....
I'm only a few bolts from pulling the engine out at this point. Pulling the engine would be the best to check behind the rear cover, oil pan and lower bearings.
However, I'd hate to do all that work and it simply be a failed Melling pump or something. Double edged sword... :bang:

That was my original plan until I saw that guys rear cam bearing walk back. That that point, I was only a few bolts away from checking those out and I simply can't put everything back together to test it when he is having the EXACT same problem when I'm that close to it.

6 Speed corvette's aren't easy to drive to a good ET. I see someone posted a video of "Ranger". He is probably one of, if not the, best 6 speed vette drivers around. His E.T.'s are abnormal for the average driver, to say the least.

Why not set up a boost gauge in the HPT Scanner? That would save him from having to buy one.
Because it's my HPT and I will probably tune someone elses car before I come back to him again. So, I don't want to leave my HP Tuners with him when I need it elsewhere. I can see the kpa when we tune, but he had massive variance in boost while we were tuning. The idea is for him to get his boost lined out so we don't keep making trips back and forth from Longview to Shreveport to only have belt slippage or a boost leak. I want him to fix the boost problem before I come back and get afr lined out again. So, a boost gauge to go along with his wideband will let him know before I come back to hook up hp tuners.

You can have different scanner configs for various cars. I also wasn't implying you should leave it with him. I was just saying that you don't have to have an aftermarket boost gauge to tune when its right there in HPT.

I realize what you were saying Chris, and was using my HPT to check everything as I scan. That's how we realized he is having boost problems. Both he and I have made several trips back and forth for tuning when things have gone wrong. So, just stating that if he can check everything before I get there, it will really help things out. :D
Cody, Chris is set up the same way. He runs a LM1 that I just plug into. All he needs is his boost gauge (that works...lol) so he can monitor things as they happen without needing me there to point him in a direction. That way we know if the car, blower, or a sensor is acting up.

Leaving off a trans brake (R+D engaged at the same time) and leaving from drive only is two completely different things. Do what you want, I'm just trying to help from my experience at the strip.
BlueThunder2
09-13-2011, 05:16 PM
The cars will flash and leave harder if leaving off idle (if no transbrake). However, I've always had bad luck (breaking tires loose). I always prefer to put a little tension on the drivetrain (ie 1500 rpms or so). That way I take less of a chance breaking drivetrain components if it does hook. I have still cut 1.3-1.5 60' times doing it that way. Where leaving off idle, I've cut 1.6 60' times due to tire spin. But, under perfect conditions,01ssreda4 is correct.

If you heat your tires up properly during burnout, you will find that leaving at idle in an
M6 will cause a severe bogging down. I achieved my best time on this car's 10-bolt with 4.10 Motive gears by getting the Kumho street tires really hot, and then gently slipping the clutch at 2500 or so RPM, with the throttle punch coming immediately upon feeling the hook. That entire movement from clutch slip to throttle punch happens in less than 1.5 seconds. Just my experience. Your mileage may vary.

Ok so I took my coil packs off the other day to paint them cause they were looking kinda crappy. Well I pulled the wiring out and coils and set them aside so just like they came off so they wouldn't get crossed up. Did that once before and learned from the mistake. Put all new NGK's and MSD wires on, plugged in the harnesses and go to fire it up and the car wont start. Went back and double checked everything and it fired up but was missing it's ass off.
Next, I pulled all plugs and the drivers side was clean like they never fired and the passenger side was black and sooty which led me to believe the ECM compensated some how and dumped tons of fuel into that bank. Thinking I somehow criss crossed the coil wiring, I flipped both sides and the car started popping terribly so I new that the way I had it was right, but something went wrong some where.
Any ideas? This shouldn't have happened since it's basically a plug swap that I've done several times over the past 5yrs I've owned the car and countless other vehicles. Kinda frustrated at the moment and wanted get some outside feedback.
Has anyone ever experienced just a bad harness? The whole driver's side bank is dead. That's really odd.

Yall can try if yall want but you can not hook a m6 on a radial tire, at least you cant leave like I would leave on a m6. You might be able to slip the hell outta the clutch and get sub 2.0 60ft time outta them, which I have never been a fan of doing. Take it from someone who has tried....a lot. If it were me and I had to have a radial on the m6 I would get a mt on a 15in wheel or a hoosier on a 15in rim. They will be a lot better if you just had a reg street tire on this whole time, you might be actually able to grab 2nd hard and not fish tail all over the road. You have got to have the sidewall on a 6spd to hook, and a bias ply works the best, just not for a dd. If I had to do it again I would dd a bias ply though

I liked the ET Streets I ran once on the track, hooked great and killed my clutch. My car is a DD and I mostly care about fun on the street with rolls and such. with the 245 bfg gsports any roll under 50 I'm blowing the tires off. and going to the track once or twice when a large group goes and run myself is something I want to do.
I've only had a 1.9 once and the stock clutch wouldn't let me shift into 2nd. So If I can do anything less than 2.0s then I'm happy.

I did it for a year after my divorce (which is why it's slightly demodded). I enjoyed it cause it's fast, clean, and still cool to me. I remember wanting a 98 SS that Ken Burnham Chevy (thats old school there lol) had in minden the year I graduated but couldn't afford the insurance. Been wanting one ever since.
Took a chance money wise and bought some Nittos for the race stars...I want to powder coat the wheels black, I've read up Witt's is a good place could anyone confirm this? The wheels will be 15x10 race stars. I'll order the skinnies next play paycheck lol
What Chris says is the truth. I've been saying that for years and so has some other guys that have tried and tried. A bolt on M6 is about the only time radials do some good. After a cam, you need some stickies if you wanna see the full potential of the car. If you have a really good suspension setup they may do better but you'll still over power them at some point in the rpm band. As mentioned earlier though, I think DR's are good for the street to help control the car. I've pretty much grown out the whole getting sideways and doing burnouts. I dont mind it from time to time but not every time I'm in the car.

Are you talking about your car? I think you will find your best 60ft leaving off idle. With an M6, the higher the rpm, the harder the hit....but with an auto it's quite the opposite. Bet there is a few auto guys here that will agree. I know for a fact mine and TA Chris (when his was NA) both cut our best 60 leaving off idle. He can tell you, he tried leaving at a bunch of different rpms. ADDED: Leaving off a trans brake (R+D engaged at the same time) and leaving from drive only is two completely different things. Do what you want, I'm just trying to help from my experience at the strip.
Are you serious? lol Your car must spin. Stallin the car higher WILL give you a better 60ft Cody.

When I had Nittos I had trouble getting it to hook. Now with ET streets, it hooks every pass. It has never spun at the track. Maybe your combo worked a little different but all the ones I have seen give better 60fts leaving off/near idle.

When we went out before, I was cutting right around 1.70s or so. This was leaving around 2k. Last time out I tried about 1500 and cut high 1.6x. From there on out I dropped it to idle, and cut low 1.6x and high 1.5x.

My first time out in an auto I thought if I stalled it up it would leave the best. I tested it before the tree just to see how hard I could push the car before it would push through the brakes, I forget what it was. So I left there, and started the night out cutting high 1.7's or low 1.8's I think it was. I progressively went down from there using steves advice, and by the end of the night I had it down to 1.60. This was before the blower. I have never tried boosting the car off the line, cause I cant seem to really get a clean pass out of the car right now with all the issues I have been having with it, plus I am on a 10 bolt still. So I try to keep it around 1.60 for the time being

Well were going to rent this place first and see how we like it. It's a nice place and sits on about an acre. The shop is what sold me on the place, that and its location. Rent is 1000 a month but I'm sure ill make half that by working on peoples cars when I get off work or on the weekends. I have a few side gigs that pay pretty good and being back in town will bring a lot more money my way. I know a bunch of people that need me to do stuff for them but being an hour away makes it hard to do. Between me and my wife bring home is around 1000 a week from our jobs. Living down here I normally bring an extra $200 home a week from side shit.

Ive had a FEW cars. Ive never had one 60ft better from lower rpms off the footbrake. Thats the reason in putting a convertor in one, to get the motor into its desired rpm range quicker. When leaving from a lower RPM, It flashes the convertor to the desired rpm quicker, but hits the convertor hard causing the car to bogg in a sense. The only reason a car would lose 60ft over stalling it up higher was that it was spinning. Unless the convertor isnt right for the application. But im sure its a little diffrent on a little slower car.

Bet the guys with the LT1 tats are jealous!
I had a weird couple days. Yesterday I walked over to the Camaro to start up the dirty whore after ~2 months of sitting there. Car wouldn't start. Turned over great, fuel pressure gauge showed good pressure, oil pressure built up while it was cranking, no security light. "WTF could this be?" I thought.
Hooked it up to the scanner and found a crankshaft position sensor code. My hypotheses was that the sensor was bad and that the injectors weren't being told to fire.
Today after church I pushed her ugly ass back to my driveway from my extended parking lot, jacked her up a little, and pulled the starter off. I unclipped the wire from the sensor and pulled the sensor out. Sensor looked great. I put in another sensor I had laying around and thought to follow the wire back up to see if it had gotten burnt. YEP! Melted to shit.
I cut out the burnt portion and repaired them with ghetto ass butt connectors. Put the starter back in; CRANKED RIGHT UP!
I love it when it's an easy and cheap fix!
