Pretty sure I need a clutch. Damn.

It's a simple swap, but does take time.
I remove the rear cradle from the frame, disconnect the upper-A-Arms, upper shock mounts, e-brake cables, etc.. and pull the entire rear cradle/differential/trans/and torque tube out at an assembly.

It's not a job I'm looking forward to, but I'll do it; eventually.
I've been reading arguments for and agains different clutches.

I don't want to spend ~$1200 on a twin disk, but then again, I don't want to do this job more often than I have to.

Monster argues that they can hold up to 700 hp/tq with a single (3), but it's $700+

Spec has similar claims with the 3, and the 3+ looks really good right now at $538 free shipping.

If you want my seasoned opinion, I suggest the McLeod RST/RXT clutch. Both a twin disks and you can use your stock flywheel, so that's not an added expense. These clutches are far easier to drive than a single 6-puck design. Another cool thing is that McLeod can rebuild them when it comes time.

I'm chilling here for now. People come and people go but this thread has a LOT of history in it from the last couple of years. Wow, imagine going back and reading some of the middle of it or the beginning. A few of us have been here since page 1 and could likely remember any random page of this thread you pull up. Lots of memories in that amount of time, there was even a Shreveport/Bossier thread before this one that we let die for this new one. You youngsters always want the newest greatest thing......for me, I'll stick with what works ;)

Chris, I talked to Wayne (caddobass) the other day, told him he should come over and let me buy him a cold beer. He agreed to when he is in the area.

The ZO6 spun badly and Dorothy took the win cause the Z couldn't make up the ground in time. Just goes to show what can happen on the street.

The Facebook group is just a way of the group as a whole to keep up with area happenings and talk shit just like on here except the difference is FB updates without having to refresh. Yes we could just call/text but when you have a group of roughly 110 people that gets hard to do.

This thread has lots of history and it'll never die. If anyone ever goes back and reads from the beginning you'll not only learn some things, but see some epic discussions and some heated arguements. Mainly the A4 vs M6, but there were many more. But no matter what we are all good friends.

I frequent both forums several times a day. I don't post unless I have something to say or if something needs to be said. With that being said, I hate FB! The ONLY reason I get on is for LSX Monsters. To see what's goin on with the group, the area, and local parts sales.

I can understand your opinion and also predict it ahead of time as well. No biggie to me, people are just different. I got three kids at home man, that day of running the roads is long gone. And ya know, it's all good. Anyone who goes from being single or having a girlfriend to having a wife and multiple kids is gonna go through some priority changes in their life. I don't hold where you are in life against anyone. Hell I've been working on and off for a year and a half on the current project that's sitting in my garage because of budget issues for the owner. As far as "doing stuff", I pretty much eat, sleep, and breathe these cars daily....without exception. Ask anyone that knows me well and they will tell you of all the LSX parts I buy weekly and/or tools to work on these cars with. And, I wrench just about every chance I get on something, but mostly LS related. Some of the more seemingly boring LS guys around here are the ones who are turning wrenches the most and have the most knowledge built on experience. They have earned my respect through their dedication to these cars and this hobby. So, I don't really consider them boring. I've met some of my best friends on this thread, so it will always get my love. If you think though that only the guys coming to hang out all the time are the only ones with real cars or a real passion for these cars, you're mistaken. I told TA Chris just earlier tonight I'd setup his 9 inch for him for free if it would save him some money, I was drilling Todd at the track about tuning questions because I been busting ass to learn how to tune because I promised Johnny I'd tune his car for him, and told Josh R just the other day he could come over and we'd drop his tranny if he needed to.

Hammer, meet nail! I really couldn't have said it better myself.

I've had the worst time trying to find a time to meet to let you borrow these books for tuning. If you want, I can leave them at my dad's shop that is very close to Hilton's old house and you can swing by and pick them up whenever you have time. I'm certain they will help.

Sorry... we didnt know LSX Monsters would grow like it did. At first it was just me and Bud, Cody G(Cold), Cody A., and a handful of others who know who they are. It was never meant to compete with anything on tech. I have been reading this thread for 3-4 years. I used to read just to see what the locals like Blue98Z were up to on the sneak. :secret2:

If it isnt your thing that is fine with me, but so far there have been some REALLY good deals come through LSX Monsters and I'm sure thee are several on here that will attest to that. I still get on here to check and see whats going on, but LSX Monsters is extremely active. It has turned into a local version of this. I blame the members. Thank you all. :usa:

http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/search/AT+Mount/03234/C0019.oap?keyword=at+mount&year=1994&make=Chevrolet&model=Camaro&vi=1035874
Here is one for an LS1.
http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/search/AT+Mount/03234/C0019.oap?year=1998&make=Chevrolet&model=Camaro&vi=1303524&keyword=at+mount

Here's something else. I bolted up my old LT1 mount to my LS1 4l60E. Lined up just fine with the trans. If the middle stud bolt is lined up the same, which it looks like it is, then there is no reason it shouldn't hold you over.
If it doesn't work, you can get a refund.

I'm on my mobile. If you Google "02 camaro transmission mount" and look at images, it should be the second or so pic. It's sitting on a tile floor in the picture. The Lt1 looks the same but doesn't have the two retaining "teeth" sticking out the back.

If yall want a laugh here's funny first time junk.

Lady at the gate told me to use the left lane, so i used that one the whole time (i dunno if the right was any different) but i thought about it after and wondered why i didn't.

Took a bit of time (probably a while) first run to figure out i needed the 2nd light before i could go.

Guy told me to roll my windows all the way up 2nd or 3rd run. (oops haha duh..)

Forgot to turn off t/c one run till after almost killing it trying to burnout.

Forgot to let pressure out of rear tires. (around 30psi the whole time)

Had to stop after 5 passes cause i didn't have enough gas in my tank anymore.

Bout all i can think of right now

Thanks and no offense. I kinda like putting the borders around them and messing with the contrast a tad and thats about it, but on some of the pics I did do that to, they needed very little adjustment on the contrast or saturation. I'm using a Canon T2i DSLR 18meg. I was using my 250mm zoom lens with a UV filter to help with the sun and glare.

Great pics! I think you and Dan had the whole track event covered.

For those that tune........ Quickly, basically a bolt on setup, basically stock tune. First ever log and crank up, I was hitting 15.75-16.00 (WB max is 16) at idle. I tried fattening the VE just to get in a safe driving range for a quick test drive. I tried +12% from 400-2k rpms. Reflash, nothing changes. I then do it again, same range, another 8%, reflash, nothing changes. Stumped so I unplug the MAF, AFR finally drops down. Seeing the big change by unplugging the MAF, I reflash a stock VE table back in and it idles in the 14 range. Go for a drive (MAF still unplugged) and its it jumps around from 14 to 11 or so just going down the street but mostly stays in the 12-14 range (We were in CL at the time). But, the question is.....Is the MAF bad? I suspect so. Intake track is bone stock, lid, bellow, MAF, TB and LS intake.

Header install on the 2011 Camaro was the easiest header install I've ever done. I kept waiting for the "hic-up", but there never was one. AMAZING!

Dan great pics. You guys are making me wish I was there instead.

As far as the tuning question goes, It doesn't mean the maf is bad at all. The maf needs to be turned off, as well as the O2 sensors. Then, tune the ve table. Next, turn O2 sensors back on and maf back on....then begin tuning the maf.

If you're using the 2.23 Beta version of HP Tuners, I can email you my config file, and give you some instructions on tuning it. Or, bring the car down here and I can help you tune it along with a little teaching so you can become more proficient.
Whatever it is, just let me know. I'm here to help.

Ok, that's what I was wondering. I thought because it was so far wrong that it could indicate a bad sensor. Not 100% sure the MAF works as its origin is somewhat unknown, it looks fine though and should work. As far as driving to TX, well we haven't even made it off the block yet, but we did get almost to the end of the street :jest: It's coming along though

Tinkered on the car a little today.

Got it in the air
pulled off the rear wheels, calipers, A arms, shocks, undid a bunch of clips, undid emergency brake cables etc.
pulled off exhaust to headers
pulled off the plate that goes over the torque tube

I've borrowed a motorcycle jack, but it won't go high enough to reach the rear cradle.

I've got a couple of options:
1. Lower the car a little bit.
2. Put something on top of the motorcycle jack
3. Put something under the motorcycle jack
4. Find some other option like a transmission jack (or two.)

I'm not in a super hurry. I'm going to wait until I can find a good deal on either a Monster 3 or a Spec 3+.

The area on the bottom of the bellhousing is wet with oil. I'm guessing that the rear main seal needs to be replaced. Oil probably got on the clutch and ruined it.

Any of you 4l60E guys interested in a BMR torque arm relocation crossmember? It's hammertone in color and looks nice. Will come with polyurethane bushing that fits any torque arm with the stock like end (shaped like a W). Asking $200 shipped OBO. Don't be afraid to shoot an offer. It's in my way and I DO NOT need it. I'll do $160 local.

Hey buddy,
I've actually started pulling my entire rear cradle/trans/TT assembly with a single floor jack. I just center the cup under the diff, and I will be up front pulling the TT apart from the rear of the engine. Once I get that loose, I just set it down on something that slides easy and just grab the jack handle and pull it out from under the car. I really don't know if I could do it any easier without a lift.

You need a complete engine harness to go with your engine and an OBD2 plug from any 96-newer vehicle or you can repin your existing one that's in the truck. The engine harness needs one 12+ power wire, several 12+ IGN wires (for various engine circuits), and a ground. If your VATS or anti-theft is tuned out it will run. The harness will have gauge outputs for your gauges (if compatible), OBD2 plug serial data wire, a signal turn-on for your fuel pump relay, and your electric fan controls (if your changing over to electric). That's basically everything to make the engine/harness function as intended. The trucks electronics should be fairly independent of all engine related items. You need wiring data for the truck, and the computer harness you are intending to use. We just dissected a 94z body/engine harness and 98 LS1 engine control harness. It was not to bad of a job once you knew what you were looking at.

Josh (Blue02) is bringing a trans jack over today. I'm going to do just what you did, except using the trans jack where you used the floor jack.

My plan is to put the trans jack under it, undo the 4 bolts, let it down a little bit, then undo the torque tube and slide the whole thing back and out.

One of my friends from Dallas came over this weekend in his silver '05 M3, first time inside one and it was pretty impressive. I've always liked BMW's they seem to be well rounded in most aspects of the car. Still not sure what the heck the trans was.. it was an auto but had different options for shifting points, paddle shifters, and also could manually stick shift. I've seen auto cars that have a slap shifter (up and down) but nothing this complicated, probably the norm now though huh. Anyways it had a blower on it and put 400rwhp on the dyno.

Launching wasn't that great, it didn't really seem all that fast in lower gears, 3rd and 4th is where i noticed the biggest difference. Biggest thing was it got crazy on the corners, i looked at the speedometer and we were going 120+ around some pretty tight corners, felt like it wanted a lot more too..

Anyways, overall it was a pretty nice car. How do yall like them?

If you're running AC what I did may not work the same for you. I had about 4 spots to choose from that didn't need to be tapped. One's behind the DS motor mount and the other is in front of the PS motor mount. They threaded right in.

That's what alcoholics call "a moment of clarity" :jest:

Seriously, his description wasn't great. I wasn't about to rattle off potential solutions and problem solving ideas. I figure a common car 20-50 lights in it, so saying the "lights flicker" just leaves me with more questions then ideas. If it was dash lights/gauges, I find it hard to believe that an intake and KS swap could yield such an issue, but like I said, he wasn't very specific.

mconway68w
01-26-2012, 10:36 AM
I couldn't be more specific. I give it gas, all lights flicker. Let off, they stop. If I unplug the negative from the battery while running, everything is normal. Anyone's guess is as good as mine.

Are the lights on while idling?

01ssreda4
01-26-2012, 04:22 PM
You should not be unplugging battery terminals while the engine is running. What is your battery voltage reading? (not the stock gauge, I mean with a multi-meter) That's likely gonna tell you a lot....

mconway68w
01-26-2012, 05:57 PM
At idle, the lights look normal. Once you give it any gas, they start pulsing. I don't have a volt meter. Usually with a bad with a bad battery, alternator, or ground it would pulse at idle and lessen when you give it gas. I just don't know. It's not terribly noticeable until the dome light is on. I'll just have to get used to it until I figure it out.

mconway68w
01-26-2012, 06:29 PM

It was pouring rain outside my open garage while I pulled the intake yesterday. Must have been a moisture issue.

blue98Z
01-26-2012, 08:58 PM
Well maybe it worked itself as you said. There are many assumptions that could made obviously, but like most, I woulda leaned towards a loose ground, slipping belt,or a failing alternator.

01ssreda4
01-26-2012, 10:35 PM
You take the battery terminal loose when you took the intake off? It sounds like a bad connection. Alternators pulse when trying to charge. The battery cushions this so you don't typically see it unless the battery is no good OR the connection is bad. Knowing how shitty the GM designed terminals are, I'd bet that is where your problem is.
