Not since the forged motor went in. he was running 11s with stock block and low low psi. He built it to go 8's so we will see. His goal was the fastest IRS in the nation. GTG for World of Wheels. I have to work this weekend, but I get off around 5:30 each day so I was thinking Saturday everyone meet up at maybe clyde fant park (where most of us used to race) around 6:30pm. Then we can caravan up to the civic center. Saturday is the best day for me since it will not close until 10pm, unless someone comes up with a better idea. Doesn't matter to me.

I'm not 100% sure if it's even going to crank once I get the 5.3 swapped in.
For those of you that do not know, I blew my LS1, opted to go with a cheap 5.3 while I buildup another motor. So basically I have no idea if it's going to crank with the LS1 computer and all of that. But hopefully we'll see on friday.

Just got back from the WoW. I met with the owners who were extremely nice/ informative on alot of things. I talked with Tom Brown the most who told me he would be running the track for the most part. From what he also told me about the rennovations, the track will not look like the same track. Also for the guys who quit coming because of traction issues. This problem will be solved from what I was told also. One story he told me was when he was running it in it's first years of opening a guy pulled up to the line on a motorcycle and put his feet down for balance. The track was so sticky that when he left the line the soles of his shoes stayed there. So my advice to all the guys and gals "BEEF UP THEM DRIVETRAINS." Opening day should be on March 9th. Woohoo can't wait!!

ScottGlad to see someone excited about the track. Ken and Molly ran alot of us off with there track prep and lack of interest in our EFI street cars. They wanted to listen to us AFTER everything was falling apart and sinking.
Are you planning to work with some of these guys on here about the EFI races? Also it would be nice to see a few full blown F body shooutout again like the old Hallsiville days when we had the "Texas Shootout",that was alot of fun.
What or if you can give us hints, are you planning to change at RRR? I'm meaning from track prep, ground level changes,1/4 or 1/8th mile bracket program,What sanction are you going to go with,How long are you planning to run events?
One thing that pissed alot of us off was the time frame RRR was run in. It was almost like we were on the clock at work,at 11:00 p.m. the work whistle went off and everyone had to go. We would loose 1-2 hours on some nights with oil downs and Bikes jumping people to get more runs in that some of us felt lucky to get 2-3 runs in. That is a major deal breaker for me and what i mean by that is that with today's economy i pay $50-$75 to race i want my money's worth.
I'm not trying to come off like a whinner or bitching but after the last few years or being raped by ken and molly we have a lot of question on what your going to do differently.

The track is NHRA sanctioned. We planning on running 1/4 and 1/8 mile races. As far as track changes, the bump where the asphalt and concrete meet got flattened out today. We also plan to use real VHT and actually spray the track, so traction hopefully won't be a issue any longer. Also getting a completely new timing system for Compulink. We are talking with diffferent organizations to try and organize a few shootouts and such. We are concentrating right now on just getting a working race track right now. And then we will go from there. Thanks for all your interest and hopefully your support. Without the folks like you coming to race, we know there would be no track to race at. Thanks

We have a nice group of efi guys that are really good bracket racers. We set up 5 points races last year and had a nice turnout for the first race but we got no support from Ken and Molly. We were more or less treated like we were in the way.
We'd really like to set something like this up this year with one points race a month. This would bring 20-30 cars a race if it were done right. They didn't even put it on the damn season calender! If you guys would be interested in do this you can contact Caddobass (Wayne) or me. We put a lot of time into this last year and we were starting to get some good racers showing back up to the track. Some of us are interested in doing some points racing (just for bragging rights:)) without running in No/E or S/P and there has never been anything like this for the street guys.
caddobass
01-19-2009, 08:12 PM
I called the track today to see if the number was working and also to stop by just to talk. Like cainsw was saying we started having some races a couple of years ago as LS1tech Racing at Red River with the hope of starting a points season. We were getting some great turn outs for the three or so races we ran that year with cars coming from Arkansas, Texas, & Louisiana. Well last year we tried to open our races up to more brand names by changing to EFI Racing and allowing any EFI car to run with us. At the same time we wanted to have two classes (bracket & heads-up). We ended up just running a bracket class, for yearly points. This year we would like to work with Thunder Road and run a points race each month for nine months. Just as soon as we could set down and talk myself, Josh, & Chris would really like to dicuss this. I would really like to see our old friends from Arkansas, Texas, and Louisiana back together at The Dragstrip on Thunder Road.

You will need a driveshaft loop, approved helmet and make sure you have a good battery hold down then you should be ok. Chris did have a rule list reference on the efi live site I sent him last year. 11.50 is the magic number for the roll bar.

Well, you'll hear a lot of people say they did not like Tom Brown, he is the manager of Thunder Road, he was the man in charge when RR first open back in 98 and he believed in following the rules then so I figure he will be no different now. I can't tell you he will run you off for running 11.4's without a cage but I would think they will really start looking hard for a cage in a convertible running mid 11's. If I remember correctly a cage is required in a vert if it's faster than 13.49 but they will probably let you slide. We'll have to wait and see

I run with a bunch of 11 second cars from down south and they were all looking forward to trying the new track up here, but I guess I'll see what they say to me before any of them drive up. No Problem Raceway has never said anything to us about cages and I think they run a pretty tight ship there.

Yeah with that cam and 5.3 heads your gonna have to flycut the pistons more than likely.
taws6m6
01-23-2009, 08:17 PM
thats a big cam. I went with a .598 and was worried about that. I was told it wasnt the valve lift that caused the problem, its the duration along with the lift. They stay open for too long is where people start having the problems.

647 lift? Went a little crazy on that one didn't you? ;) This is going to clear stock pistons?
yea i know its big
yep i talked with texas speed it will clear i think there gonna recess the valves. with this grind they said you dont loss low end tq like you do with the ms cams and the power band stops at 6600 so it pretty close to where i shift. they have a post were a independent shop with that cam an the prc 215cc heads put down 480at the wheels so i know mine are a little different so we will see
cainsw
01-24-2009, 12:39 AM
I still don't see that monster clearing! I don't believe it will stop making power at 6600 either. My 228/581 was still pulling @ 6800 on the dyno back when it was in the TA. Maybe I'm wrong but I'd be scared to run that big monster with out cutting. Not only is it big lift but that is some huge duration when you combine it with that much lift. Guess we'll figure it out
JD17825

I'm against big cams with small cubic inch motors after i went through the MS3 and T Rex with my smaller motors. To see the full benifits of them you have to shift to high for the stock rod bolts to hold together for a good amount of time.
My MS3 got me the best results shifting it at 7K,greg and i moved the shifts points all night long and kept getting faster. Greg warned me of twisting it too high but i did not care i was already looking for an excuse to build a bigger motor anyway. My 232/.570 lift cam shifted at 6500 and with the MS3 cam at the same shift point all i gained was a half mph :eyes:
Watch your milage on the springs i would not trust them for a long peroid of time with little clearance with that duration and lift. If you float them much at all you could risk touching the pistons but if you have enough valve relief in some aftermarket pistons i would not sweat it. For a stock ci motor i would go with a cam that with a tad lower duration, lift in the .590-.600 on a 110LSA. That will make up for the lose of lowend tq. and enough lift to flow what the heads need without having to shift it to the moon to see anything.
That is the new Tsunami cam isn't it?

Mine was the pooch of the bunch. Mine dynoed 343.8rwhp and 318.3 rwtq. I think mine was uncorreted. My 98 dyno 343hp and 359tq with just bolt ons! I started thinking about my tire psi on the way home so I checked them when I got home and they only had 9psi in them. I think that might have had something to do with it. Mine lost 141 hp to the driveline according to the dyno. The black GMC was a mean SOB. My 2800# TA would be one bad mofo with that setup!
I had a great time putting some names and faces together, and I would also like to thank Greg "The Professor" for giving the student some schooling. You don't know how much I appreciate you sharing some of tuning knowledge with me! Thanks.
Josh we will finish getting your car lined out soon.

First pull was uncorrected at 391/385
Final pull corrected was 385/375
The graph shows it planing out, but I'm sure it's nothing some fine tuning and fixing some possible fuel issues won't fix.
Chris, I'm gonna change the fuel filter again just for some assurance and get a fuel pressure gauge to check the fuel before we assume the pump is bad. I know the car has 400+ in it once we get the bugs worked out.
I can't load the video because photobucket won't take more than 5 min. I was at 5:01 lol. I had a good time yesterday, it was good meeting up with old friends and making the drive over to ETMC for the Dyno Day (thanks for the $10 pulls & pizza). Josh, Steve, Chris, and myself met at around 9 at Sonic for coffee & war stories. We fell in behind Greg when we got to Longview. Those five Camaro's looked good pulling into ETMC, Phil & Bob were already there with the Impala's. It was great seeing the EFI Racing turn out, hell we were looking for a track. Looked like we were at a goat meeting over there, lots of Texas GTO's over there. I saw alot of good numbers on the Dyno and my dirty headers only 124000 mile vert put down 1st pull 316.51 rwhp/329.94 torque, 2nd pull 326.55 rwhp/355.13 torque

Chris you know your car does much better on the track, then a dyno can say. I looked at your rear tires when you were on the dyno and they looked very low on air and with high stall you are running I think you are giving away alot of lost there. Damn, 8 years ago! It's been that long? I was telling everyone about that. Dan was killing you about the low numbers then you went and laid down the 11.96. We knew back then to run 11.96 it took way more than 311rw and I know it takes a lot more than my numbers to run 11.4x's. I'll be axing the Hoosier QTP's for a set of MT DR's now that I have an auto. I'll for sure be ready when the track opens up.
Lol, I'm ok with the crappy numbers as long as it keeps running mid-low 11's. Things never change though, dynos can be very misleading both ways! I know tons of people who put down big numbers but their cars won't run at the track and I know others who put up low numbers but run et's their dyno numbers do not support.

I can't wait until the 21st. That reminds me, I still need to call and RSVP so I can race. I hate to run some shake down passes on a new setup then enter a race cause I know I'm gonna be very inconsistent. Still will be fun though. I'm very curious as to what it will run. I figure at the very least a 11.99 would be possible on the second pass. I'll get faster as I get used to it so I'll have to guess on my dial in times and hope I get close.

A 4 barrel setup is the best TB to run on a single plane but with his throttle body setup being a drive by wire it's a little more crap to do than what he wants to do for now. Were going to try a different elbow setup that will be a custom peice that will have zero restrictions.
Here is something to think about: a 90mm TB setup will flow 1000-1100 cfm of air where a 4150 style TB will flow 1250 cfm of air. Not enough gain in air if your elbow is already flowing what the motor can handle. Now a 4500 style TB will flow 2000 cfm of air but your looking at a $800+ TB not counting having to change the air induction to fit this style of setup.
I almost did it to mine but i would have to lose the passenger windshield wiper and sell my hood for a sunoco outlaw to cover the TB from the weather. Just too much money for that RIGHT NOW ;):D

is anyone planning on crashing the Ricer/Import dyno day at ETMC this weekend LOL
Im off and we should have my tune finished up this week. I know I was just there, but I just wanna see how well we did with the tune more than anything. I'll get with my tuner and see what he wants to do.
Is it too late to RSVP for the ETMC race on the 21st?

Steve, what are going to do with your stock injectors when you get Hilton's from him? Greg said the Accels are hard to tune and I know the 28's will be plenty. I don't want to wait any longer being as close as we are to finishing the tune.

Does anybody have a spare an fbody oil pan laying around? I need one ASAP to complete my car, either that or I need someone that can weld holes closed in my old one. Lol.
Forgot to say I have a few things to trade plus cash or just cash.
98 Trans Am LS1 Heads and valve covers.
Parts off of an 04 5.3:
- Intake manifold
- Throttle body
- Exhaust manifolds

Also have 8 LS1 coil packs.

I am gonna tear off the door emblems, add a small slp decal under the left tail lamp, and was thinking about getting some small f14 decals for the hood where the ram air decals are. Just to change things up. David there are a few resident welders around here if you can talk em into it

^^^so cody how is the rear holding up?? the swap seem to be a huge success. all in all we had about 4-5 people working on it. correction, we had about 1-2 working, 1-2 supervising and one that retreated in to watch the football game. i think Cody learned a lot about rear suspension disassembly, i learned a lot about e-brake cables, and chris cussed while trying to figure out which socket he thought he needed. josh watched us act like bumbling idiots. hey we got it done though....cheers fuckers..:chug:

Got it up to 60 on the highway and no shimmy, I'll get on the interstate tomorrow and go look at head units at Circuit City (20% off going outta business sale) and see if it vibrates at 70+...either way I'm still getting up early Wednesday morning to get the alignment done before work. Big thanks to Steve, Chris, Josh, and Futch for making that swap happen. Was a learning experience and a great time! :chug:

My dad and uncle had their own body shop from as far back as I can remember up until about 1990. I think we did good considering how your car wasn't exactly the ideal car to start with being a 98 model and all the little bugs we had to deal with. We did learn that 98's are very touchy. We need to do some WOT runs next.
On a side note, I'm thinking after I run the ETMC event, I will be swapping the black nightmare back over to street duty so I can spend my free time building the TA for some all out stuff. You cant swap gauges, you could used to send your 115mph gauge to Granatelli and they would recalibrate it, and throw their 200mph overlay on it, but I dont know if they still do that. The limiter can be changed with a tuning program like TunerCat.

When I say gauges I mean the whole Gauge cluster panel.
Since my Z/28 didn't come with Z rated tires it came with a 115, I'm ordering a 94' gauge panel that is pulled from a scrapyard Z/28.

I am getting ready to swap the wheel studs on my 9" for some arp ones. Do i need any special size to run these 15 wheels? They need to be longer right? Same thread and diameter i am guessing is ok
Leadfart
02-06-2009, 12:02 PM
My other car used to be a Camaro SS. I sold it to one of my race buddies in Shreveport. Anyway, I ran the longer 12MM stock size ARP studs on it. I used 15x9.5 Bogarts, with shanks, instead of lugnuts.
The studs had to be notched, on the backside, to fit properly.
Of course, with most fifteen inch wheels, you will have to grind the calipers.
The Bogarts didn't require grinding.
taws6m6
02-06-2009, 01:26 PM
that's what I as thinking. just longer. and of course the shanks as well. I got some convo pros that already fit with no grinding. so I just need some longer studs
Leadfart
02-06-2009, 03:43 PM
Now, I see you've got an aftermarket rearend, if you're using aftermarket axles as well, you may not have to grind on the wheel stud heads, like I had to, on the stock axles. HTH
