Default Nitto 555r to sticky?

I have 140k on my stock rear end and have 420/415 power. Would the 555r be too sticky and possibly wreak my rear end? What do you guys think?

TIA,
Bryan

I'm making around the same power with 100K on the stock rear, and daily drive on M/T drag radials...go for it! haha. All 10 bolts will go someday, sticky tires aren't going to help though, especially with the M6. Just hope it doesn't dead hook.

I have about 80,000 on my stock rear and I dont have the power your making I do have a stalled auto and that thing has cut 1.79s at the track multiple times on a 275-40-17 MT et street and my 10bolt doesnt even make noises. Id say since your a M6 you definetly have a better chance blowing it if you powershift or drop the clutch real hard but Nittos really are not that sticky compared to the MTs and BFG drag radials I ran them both and have not had any probs and It has seen quite a few pass's at the track. Eitherway its a ticking time bomb if you abuse it but if you dont do high rpm launchs and powershift first to 2nd it should be ok

You should be OK so long as you don't heat them up at the track. That's a lot of miles on a stick 10-bolt, but, some of them seem to live forever. I'd def start saving money for a new Dana S90 someday ... in case your current 10-bolt breaks.

I hardly consider 555R's a Drag Radial, They perform more like an excellent street tire.

Anything beyond boltons will make the 555R's look like a regular tire

I say grab a pair of ET Street radials, they are the best performance tire on the market

I always cut mid 1.7's launching easy at 1800-2000 rpm (A4) ... with 10-second burnouts temp was 43*. They have done me well, but, MT Street Drag radials are the way to go at the track, without a doubt ... not something you wanna' drive on in the rain, though.

From my experience, the Nitto's are a good all-around tire, however, they're nowhere close to a street tire at the track if you heat them up. You'll know when they're hot enough to stick by the rubber slung up all over the rear fender well after you make your pass.

I think you'll blow them off the rims.

I'm with RevGTO ... wouldn't do a major burnout with any kind of bald tire that wasn't a slick.

On a M6 car the initial shock to the rear is what breaks them , i broke my stock gears then broke the axles with the nittos

ProStock John and several other's here consistently 60' with 1.5's with more powerful cars than yours. But, they have the suspension to do that with Nitto's. While I agree Nitto's are not what you want to take to the dragstrip, but, they will hook well with a good burnout, but, it sure takes away a lot from the life of the tire.

A good pair of Mickey Thompson Street drag radials is what you want to take to the track if you have the rearend to support them. As your OP stated, you wnat something not too sticky because of your 140K stock rearend. You'll brak it with drag radials of any IMHO. Do the Nitto's and launch real easy and you can have a lot of fun.

The RWHP and RWTQ that 370 is making will decimate any 555rs you throw on there

if your concern is with breaking the rear then run your run of the mill street tires and roll race that bitch around town

When you decide to take it to the track, or have a nice EVO or Cobra on DRs line up next to you at your favorite local stoplight enjoy your 2.2, 2.4, 2.6 60"s and getting your *** handed to you by stock or close to stock cars while they race your 420RWHP Camaro...

10 bolts with M6 are time bombs some last years some last for 1 pass, if you have stock gears out back you have a better chance of making it last

Worst comes to worst break out the Visa and have the 9" sent out ASAP

My car makes well over 400 rwhp. On a 17" Nitto I cut consistent mid 1.6's w/ a 3500 stall. If your suspension is half decent it will hook fine.

BTW my rear smoked the pinion at 50k miles

Ohh you got a stick that's a lttle different. If you are afraid about your rear than you should just stick to a street tire anyways.
