Default Any suggestions from guys about 9 inch diffs?

I just bought a 9 inch for my car but it has a spool... I drive the car too much on the street and with a drag radial to run a spool so Im looking for a differential that will hold up. I guess I'm kinda limited to what I can run for differential because I have 35 spline axles though. Car is raced and street driven a lot... Hopefully someone can shed some light on this for me.

I have 35 spline axles and a Detroit Locker. It's a little loud and clunky but I wouldn't have it anyother way. Makes a great conversation piece.

You are limited to either the spool or a detroit locker with 35 spline axles take your pick.

The locker will allow your axles to slip around the corners and help preserve tread life of your tires a little bit better. Also, they are a little bit safer in wet weather. But you have to deal with the Noise associated with it.

^^^^ Correct you are limited to a Full Spool, Detroit Locker or Even an ARB Air Locker if you choose(expensive but available).

And I've never heard of that on a spool....
I know plenty of guys with Spool in their DDs. No problems with breaking stuff.
In a parking lot you'll have a tough time, but not breaking studs, never heard of this one...

Doubt that but its hell on tires, not to mention traction issues galore in curves and inclimate weather.

I've driven a lot of spooled cars on the streets, even in rain with M/T drag radials driving sixty miles, and never had any problems. I had an older guy who is retired bring his Camaro to me, he had a place install a nine inch with a locker, and it was swaying all over the road. Lockers will sometimes create a swaying motion as it unlocks each axle at slightly different times. We swapped the locker out for a spool and this guy is really happy with it now. It is much more drivable for him on the streets. Bob

Bob you got me all Fubar'd now, LOL

I don't kjnow whether to go with a locker, spool or even a truetrac?

I'm scared of the feedback about the truetrac breaking, especially at my power level even though it is an auto?

As far as the spool and locker go's I thought that most say the locker is more streetable but I've heard you reccommend the spool over and over again for the street? What gives? I don't think I want to be like austin powers in a damn parking lot with a spool trying to turn around

I think Air Lockers will work with 35 spline axles..

Driving with a locker can be downright spooky. The feeling from the spool is consistent. My drive back and forth to the shop is mostly rural and highway, and unless I'm turning a corner, I never notice that I have a spool when I make the 25 minute trip in a car with a spool. Bob

I think the locker drives just fine once you learn how to drive it. Making a turn with too little throttle seems to cause them to make more noise. Mine did get better with the first lube change and switching to synthetic. In the mornings when I first back out of the drive and start to take off is when it makes its worst noise. Then its not bad at all. I try to keep a bit of power on it when turning. It seems like when you're at a neutral power through the turns, it locks/unlocks back and forth and makes noise. It also behaves if you turn without any power on it. Then it just clicks. I'd bet with an automatic it drives better. Mine is an M6 BTW.
