Wanting to go bigger than a MS4 cam
This is for a friend...
He has a 01 LS6.
Currently he has the MS4 cam installed..
239/242, .649"/.609" 111LSA
We plan to rebuild his engine keeping Stock stroke and bore, Using his stock heads.
We wanted to go with a set of forged rods and pistons With big reliefs.
Question:
1. What size cam from there can he use? We can do a custom grind if necessairy.
2. What pistons can we use to get the maximum valve relief? we thought of a 10 or a 11:1 compression.. What are your thoughts of this?
Hes looking for as much power as possible and He is not concerned about the streetability of the cam.

im no expert on the situation, butttt, i dont think that a bigger cam will benifit you very much on stock flowing heads. But TSP has that texas giant cam or sumshit like that anyway. But i think that instread of picking up 5 horsepower with a new cam, a set of heads will obviously pick you up maybe 10 times the horsepower.

yiu can go w/ some diamond pistons (they offer huge reliefs). I would probly go with 11.2:1 this way you can run pump gas w/o detonating. If you are happy w/ the ms4 and just want to go bigger TSP offers a "giant cam" I believe it's a 248/254 .618/.623 and you can pick any lsa needed. this cam is a monster.

I second that. He is already throwing away power with the MS4 because the heads can't flow enough to take full advantage of the cam, why would you go even bigger???
He could keep the same cam, get ported heads and pick up a crap load of power. Installing a bigger cam when your heads are already a bottle neck is just stupid.

I spoke with him on the phone today and He wants to upgrade the heads too..
Can He port his 243 ls6 heads extensively to perform for this setup?
Hes considering having them fully ported vs buying Afr or trick flow heads.
is porting worth the price, they quoted us 750 to do a full port job extensively.
Im going to be getting his MS4 as payment of helping him with this project so even if its only gonna yield a few more HP he needs a cam to replace it and he wants bigger if its possible.

who makes the Vindicator ?
People must understand his MS4 cam is spoken for, Pretty cheap labor to r&i and rebuild a engine isnt it? I thoguht so!!
he wants to know if he has a little more room to grow with a slightly bigger cam with valve reliefs, and He will be getting supporting mods to accomidate that cam..
