Angry New fbody owners what to expect

just wanted new ls1 owners or people about to get one what its like to own one of these gems.'

My stone stock z28 spun a bearing riding home from work one day at 80,000 miles. Total engine replacement required

I make some upgrades, throw a new motor in, get it tuned.

Today, I enjoy a total brake system failure while in heavy traffic and being brake checked. A hard line coming out of the ABS module snapped spraying fluid all over and catching fire.

This is just recent fun, I used to enjoy"
Constant throttle sticking at WOT ( oh yeah )
Every sensor going out, some twice
2 new window motors on each side before it even hit 75k
massively leaking ttops that dump water on me when it rains and soaks my carpet.
Massive brake rotor warpage
None of my panels line up anymore
My cats went bad and clogged at 40k
3 sets of 02 sensors went out before 80k

AND THIS IS JUST HALF OF IT.

if yuo want something reliable, dont buy an fbody with an ls1. I love em to death, but they truely are peices of ****. they outperform everything, but dont expect any quality whatsoever. I love fbodies, just warning newbs that its not a good car for someone who doesnt wish to die due to the faults in manufacturing of their vehicle. This one has almost killed me 3-4 times due to equipment failures, the most recent being the brake failure at 60mph in heavy traffic. Funny how my buddys toyota has 400k on it and just now needs its first clutch change...

Wow, sounds like you got a bad apple. But, I don't think it's accurate to say that they are all pieces of ****.

I run the **** out of my car every time I drive it. 75K on it have had absolutly no problems what so ever. Maybe you should have some one who knows how to work on you car do the work. I suppose you get your oil changed at jiffy lube to.

sounds like you got a lemon man sorry for your luck, but its def not fair to say all f-bodys are like this. some of the problems listed just seem like a bad case of not taking care of the vehicle, not sure if you were the sole owner of the car and not trying to insult you but the car just needed a lil TLC

Today, I enjoy a total brake system failure while in heavy traffic and being brake checked. A hard line coming out of the ABS module snapped spraying fluid all over and catching fire.
-see brake warpage
Constant throttle sticking at WOT ( oh yeah )
-WOT says it all
Every sensor going out, some twice
-every sensor? if so lemon
2 new window motors on each side before it even hit 75k
-happens to most f-bodies
massively leaking ttops that dump water on me when it rains and soaks my carpet.
-car being in the sun eatin up rubber. happens with most weatherstripping
Massive brake rotor warpage
-hard braking and burnouts
None of my panels line up anymore
-lots of torque, no chasis strengthning
My cats went bad and clogged at 40k
-mine went bad at 85k
3 sets of 02 sensors went out before 80k
-car running rich cookin up 02 sensors (poss tune issue)

just a few i can think of my .02 cents tho.

I hate how people have a bad experience with a car and thinks all of them are like that... sorry you had a dud dont hate them all cause of it. Im sure there are hundreds of f-body owners on here that havent had any major problems with thiers.

i have 105k on my car.. my problems so far have been brake rotors warping, trans failure due to 100k miles and me driving the crap out of the car, rear end bearing failure due to never changing the gear oil, and that's really about it. engine is great, and i test mine almost daily. no sensors have gone out yet.

Well to the newb, I bought my 99 T/A in 2004, and it has served as my daily driver. I just rolled it over to 116k. Problems I have had: throttle position sensor went bad at 60k, replaced no problem since... Thats it. The rest was induced by my misdeeds. Blown head gaskets at 113k, thats to be expected from a car that sees the red on the tach every once in awhile. I keep up the fluid changes and keep it clean, I do my own work, I dont trust anyone else. I have had a couple of these cars, and my father drives one also, we dont have problems with them. If you take care of it, it will take care of you!

There is no perfect car. It is completly unfair to call our cars shi*.Yes the rearends cant hold up to high rpm launches, yes the cats get clogged(and were recalled by the way,got mine replaced two months ago for free by the dealer),yes the window motors go out, yes the top of the door panels crack.Did I miss anything?

So get a good rear if you are going to race.Have your cats replaced or take em off if you local laws allow.Buy a lifetime warranty window motor from Autozone and take some time to replace it when it goes out.Re-enforce the door panel following the directions in the sticky on this site.

LS1s are great motors. F bodies are great cars. Anyone would be lucky to own one.
Sorry to hear about your troubles but the ones who still have great running high milege LS1s and even LT1s dramatically outweigh the ones who have had problems like yourself.

My T/A has 122,000 on it and has never had any major problems or failures. The original motor had 120K on it when I pulled it out and there was absolutely nothing wrong with it.

Sorry you got dicked but IMO these cars are great and can definitely go the long haul.

I'll trade you my toyota for it. It has 50,000 miles on it so that means you'll get 350,000 trouble free miles out of it because we all know all vehicles have a dated lifespan.
