Default Yet another testimony against Bosch oxygen sensors...

So about 5 months ago, I got an SES light that told me my drivers side oxygen sensor was bad. My 98 Formula has 93,000 miles on it, so I figured that things like this would be starting to come up bad. I went to Autozone, got the sensor and replaced it. SES light was cleared, and a few weeks later I got deployed to the Desert for a few months. About a month after I got back, I got another SES light saying the passenger side oxygen sensor was bad I did the same thing and replaced it with another Bosch unit from Autozone ($75 later). But now the SES light came back on after clearing it. Not only was it telling me that the passenger side was bad, but now it was telling me the drivers side was bad as well. At this point I felt like it was over my head since I had replaced what Mr. OBD II told me to replace, and it was still showing bad, so I took it to the local performacne shop to check out. He checked everything from the sensors to the computer and told me, "its pretty much got to be your oxygen sensors, because everything else is "A" Okay.

After being frustrated about the whole ordeal, I ordered a set of AC Delco sensors and replaced both of the new Bosch sensors with them. Since, the SES light has not come back on, and the car hasn't given me any issues. It was a pain returning the faulty sensors, but after conversing with the Autozone manager, he ended up giving me my money back.

I had heard some people have issues with Bosch oxygen sensors in the past, but I just figured since they were new, they were good. Not the case for me, and hopefully this thread saves people from making the same mistake I did when replacing my bad oxygen sensors with Bosch's.

I was going to switch from Bosch's to ACDelco's this spring, good to hear that solved your problem.

Well, hopefully you have good luck, but I had issues with both of mine, and I know I am not alone.

They usually come with a warrenty, so you should be able to return them.

Long story short, JUST GET AC DELCO'S

I'm not saying "every" Bosch sensor is faulty or bad from the factory. But there is a good amount of them that are. You may get lucky by rolling the dice with Bosch's, but if you want a sure thing, I'd go with the Delco's.

CALL911.......Where you running stock when you had this problem or where you modded?
Any adjustment to the pcm like ls1 edit, diablo etc?......The reason I ask Is I had a similar problem with my tt supra.....That thing had 4 o2's though......
My thought is that the bosch's cant keep up with a modded car with a snitload of exhaust gasses passing thru them you know what I mean?......And actually I replaced all 4 with the Snitty Bosch's..twice for the matter....It would run great on the street....Bring it on the highway and open that thing up.....<Check engine>........
Then I sucked it up an bought oems before going wideband......
I think you are definetly on to something bro.......

The oxygen sensors I orginally replaced looked to be the factory ones the car came with. And "no" the car is pretty much completly stock still (other than a few suspension mods and a lid. The car has 4 oxygen sensors total (pre and post cat on both sides). Both that were replaced were the pre cat oxygen sensors.

I am having this exact problem now. I have bosh sensors in the car and i'm not too happy with them. it randomly gets the code. sometimes i can drive the car for 1,000 miles before the SES light comes back on. I'm ready to just put GM/AC delco sensors in and be done with it.

Does anyone have both part numbers for the left and right factory GM o2's before the cat?

I will only use AC Delco, when I had Bosch my car never ran right and it cost me a few dollars to find out it was my NEW Bosch O2s causing the problems.

Even after I read of the "switching" problems, my tuner had no issues with tuning and I have yet to throw a code.

i once had a problem with a new AC delco o2 sensor, it took me forever to find out the problem, the bad sensor though the bank 1 was running lean so the computer made it really rich, ended up clogging my cat but ac delco gave me a new 02 sensor because of the situation!
