Angry Would you DD your bird to save money on gas?

First of all I drive a 1993 Chevrolet extended cab z71 with 168xxx miles on it. It is a good dependable truck that still has plenty of power left in the original motor. I recently had a tune up on the engine with new spark plugs and everything ignition related as well as I replaced the fuel filter. Unfortunately the truck only gets 13mpg out of 25 gallon tank. I am spending $130 a week in gas! However the W gets 20mpg or better with a 15 gallon tank and if I drive it every week I would only spend $90 per week. Is it really worth it to DD the bird just to save money on gas? I like keeping her low on miles and besides she likes to sit in the garage! Also, it is not an option to sell the truck! What would you do?

My bird's my baby. Once a week it gets it's shine on better than most garaged cars could wish for, and mine sleeps outside. It's a DD that gets about 12k miles or more put on it every year. If I had a DD, she'd be in the warehouse with a cover on her every week until either really good weather hit or the weekend came, even if that DD got a lil less mileage that the WS6 could pull.

^^ ya alternate. I DD my Camaro and have been the past few years. And with 72k miles and 2 cross country trips (FL-CA) i still get 20mpg or better all the time. These cars were meant to be driven, its like a requirement in the purchase agreement.

Personally, I'd rather not expose my 'Birds to the rigors of daily driving. Yeah, you might save money, but you also get to deal with stuff like rock chips, door dings, etc... and for roughly $160/month saving.. well... I'd have to save that for a really long *** time to be able to recoup the cost of a new paint job.

So I'd say it's not worth it. DD the car you care less about. In fact, it would be cheaper to buy some beater econobox and drive it every day than it would be to repaint a car after it got all beat up from daily use. For $160/month, I can get a pretty decent beater to drive, and still save even more money on gas.

He said selling his truck wasn't an option.

its sitting until it gets cam, bottle, and cage.Even then its going to the track and will never be a daily driver. So when it eventually becomes a drag car, everything will still be tight and new like it is now, sitting with a car cover.

before this gets into another DD vs. weekender, why dont people realize that maybe an f-body is NOT the most practical vehicle for some people?? im a union pipefitter....a construction worker. do you think im going to take my pristine TA onto some shitty, filthy, mudhole ridden jobsite where some ******* in a forklift might run into it? have you ever heard of paterson NJ....if not, imagine harlem in the 80s, and thats paterson right now. i had to work there....nights....for a summer. if i ever brought my TA there it would have been stolen/vandalized the first night. in addition.....ive said this 10 times before. i carried several thousand dollars worth of scrap in my pick-up. how much can you carry in the hatch of an f-body??

not everyone works in an office and stays nice and clean every day. some people work for a living. if i had a nice little office job, then sure, id have a fun car to DD. but i dont. so i cant. end of story. think about that before you bash another guy for not driving his car every day.

I think you took my post the wrong way...I wasnt bashing anyone for not DDing a car....It personal preference. Yes I understand not driving it to your job or something...what I was referring to is to just having it sit in the garage and look at it...and if you wanna do that thats fine. I just wouldnt like having a car that I couldnt drive. I am not bashing just saying MY personal preference since thats what this threat was intended to do I think
