Default head flow numbers...

not to be taken out of context, but who the hell cares what the flow is @ .600, i mean very few cam out there are that high and even still the valve is only utilizing that .600 for like3-5% of the whole valve travel, seem to me we should be concerned with 520- 560- flow numbers am i wrong or kust on the wrong track.....

I think:

the .300 & .400 numbers are probably the most important

with the .200 and .500 numbers being next

the .600 nice bragging right for the most part and little else for most of us

the .100 numbers are important too if they are too high too quick reversion is more likely to occur etc at low rpm

Yes you are on the right track....basicly .200-.300-.400-.500 are more important than .600" or total peak cfm...your also correct about valve carry percentage...it doesnt matter too much what the .600" lift number is if you are running a .550" cam...but deffinatly compare under the curve flow number's between vendor's...that's where the competition get's real tough because I port head's myself..and I know that tuning for low lift number's are easy...tuning for high lift number's are easier...but to get the best of both world's takes alot of time...small port volume (generally),Trick throat cut's and valve angle's,smaller diameter valve's 2.02/1.57's or 1.55's not 2.08's and 1.60's generally....so anyway's..if you are looking for head's...compare low,mid AND peak cfm number's to find your best set of head's...Like JPR or Absolute speed..those guy's actually grasp the concept of bigger is NOT alway's better..they do awesome work...if I had to reccomend 3 shop's it would be Absolute speed (Great low, mid, and peak number's), JPR (Great low, mid, and peaks as well), and T.E.A.(they use a larger port volume and low lift number's suffer..but good mid lift and peak number's)..GTP is very good as well but havent seen full flow sheet's.just peak number's...but their craftsmanship and peak's look very nice...anyway's hope this help's...Later,

Carter
