Default 1/2 qt. low within 3 to 4 weeks, is this normal?

Ive been noticing my car has been a little low when I check it and I was wondering if its normal or not? I just changed my oil maybe 3 or 4 weeks ago and checked it today and it was a 1/2 quart low. I put 5 all together when I changed it, could that be the reason? What do most of you put in it from the beginning? (when you change it) I run 5-30 Royal Purple. If me not putting enough oil from the start isnt the problem, why would it be low? The car doesnt leak, so what else could it be? Thanks

A majority of LS1's burn some oil. Could be the PCV system (do a search), could just be oil getting past the rings.

So yes, its pretty normal.

Is it normal?? Absolutely mine got as bad as 2 quarts in 1500 miles... the smaller newer PCV valve helps...

What do you mean by that? Did GM come out with another one to replace it? My car is a '00, did it come in the '01-'02? Is it a part that can be found at any parts store? Whats different about it from what mine came with? I just replaced mine maybe 2 or 3 months ago and I got it from Autozone and they looked identical. Thanks

My manual says that my 2002 holds 5.5 quarts with a filter change. I sounds like you don't have a problem. Did you check it after installing a new filter and 5 quarts (and running the motor to fill the filter)? Was it low? I think it should have been, I won't guarentee it.

I always use 6 quarts and a new filter and usually get 5-something quarts back out of it at 5000 miles. I'm running Mobile 1 10w-30. Just my thoughts.

Or... to say what Trackbird just said in laymans terms:

You should probably fill it up with oil if you want it to be full!

Driving easy and turning low rpm, I can't ever tell that my LS1 uses any oil. However, if I drive hard, spin to 6,000+ a lot, it will suck down some oil. The more rpm the more oil burned.

Sometimes driving style effects oil consumtion too.

I am just like TRACKBIRD 6 quarts of oil (Mobil 1) and I ususally get @ 5 out depending on how I drove it Nice or Hard. I know you are saying how would you know if it is 5 after you change your oil but I buy the 5 quart containers and one extra and the old oil always fits in the 5 quart container real close to were it was when I bought it I then drop it off at walmart for disposal. Seeya!
