Default 2-series carrier question - need help

I have a dilemma I need help with. I have a 2-series carrier on the car, and of course I have 2.73's but I am going to install 3-series gears. I have a 3 series rear end in my garage.

I have some Motive 3.42s in my closet but they're not the thick gears so I can't use them on my current carrier. Should I get a spacer (i heard they suck), should I just install my 3 series carrier and use my Motives, or should I buy 3 series thick gears and use them in my current carrier?

Any advice is greatly appreciated! Thanks

Your questions boil down to how much money you want to spend to make it work.

1. Spacers are cheap but bad to run. I would not even put one in my mother-in-laws car.
2. A 3 Series Positraction is gonna set you back about $400-$450.
3. A Thick Ring Gear would set you back about $180-$200 and is more prone to make noise than a standard cut gear.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any more questions.

You pretty much answered my question.. I want to get this done for cheap but still have it done right. I guess the thick ring is the best solution given my budget.. Thanks for the info!
