Thumbs up TR224 Cam

Who's using it?

Do you have any audio or video of it?

What kind of HP gain did you see?

Does it idle pretty mild or big?

I have one with TSP 5.3 heads and put down 396 rwhp and
378 through a locked auto. It idles pretty good but if you want some lope try to get the idle to around 600. The only video I have is of some street racing. Sorry for the quality. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VDJBtdop1fk

Default Tr224

I run the TR224/112 lsa. I am very happy with it. Power is nice, only thing (which you'll find with any cam like these or especially bigger ones) is low speed surging, like when you're in a parking lot driving at 5 mph at rpm's are at a low level, like 1400. Idle lope is sweet...I love hearing mine with my cutout open

Sweet.

Did y'all get a tune right after the Cam or did you wait? If so, how long did you wait? And with the tune, was there an increase in HP?

i got it in my ride. had it in a 112 lsa, but then switched to a 114 after i got my motor forged (smog purposes). Its a real good cam. Has the power where i want it. I was going to get a bigger cam thats able to rev 6800+ rpms but i dunno, just dont like the idea of revving that high

heard it's good for a nice flat power band. Don't have to rev it as high. Probably going that route b/c I've got a 98 with the legendary weak rod bolts. With bolt ons your looking at around 390to400 rwhp 370 to 380 rwtq. Either that or the futral f5 on a 112.

Its a great starter cam. Dont waste your time with anything smaller. Anything in the 22X/23X range is good for making power. It doesnt need to have aggressive cam lobes to make huge power.

As for low speed stuff, thats all in the tune.

I have to cruise in neutral more often than not in parking garages/lots, slightly annoying.

What's more funny is if you let the surge take over, it'll get worse and worse, bucking like mad and anyone around will see your car bunny hopping across the parking lot, laughing at your feeble attempts at driving a stick.

I have the tr224 cam 112lsa. Love it! Making 387rwhp and 379rwtq on stock heads with the basic bolt ons. Sounds good and makes great power all over the rpm range.

Are you sure that is a real firehawk or is it a clone? That sure looks like a raptor hood.

Yes I'm sure its a real Firehawk. This has been discussed more times than I can handle. The previous owner had this hood put on. Not me. I'm actually trying to get a Firehawk hood, even though SLP stopped making them. If you don't believe that my car is a Firehawk, #362, look on my fquick page at the birth certificate or at the VIN# and call SLP yourself. (732-349-2109)

Oh, and it's not a "Raptor" hood. It's a SLP Ram Air H.O. hood. Good try though.

Sweet, that's exactly the HP range I'm looking to get. Right at about the 400rwhp range. Do you all have any video or audio clips of your car with the cam?

Edit- just saw vrbas's slip with cam. sounds good, just what I want! thanks for all the input!

I have a TR224 on a 114 LSA. The car also has full bolt-ons and 3.73 gears. It's an M6 too. I would definitely get a tune at the same time. I only gained 2rwhp and lost 4rwtq before the tune, but after I tune I gained 27rwhp and 21rwtq for a final # of 379rwhp and 375rwtq. Not to mention all the under the curve power I gained. The only thing I regret is going with a 114 LSA, I would go with a 112 if I did it over again for more lope at idle. Over all I'm very pleased with the car and have run a best 1/4 of 12.44 @ 114 on street tires with no weight reduction. I'll see if I can post a couple vids.

2 MB video clip here: http://konrademrich.com/cars/gto/vid...nscamshort.wmv

I love mine as well. With a set of ported heads, mac headers, and a really crappy ypipe (crushed 2.5" pipe) it made 427hp/400tq and that was with a mailorder tune. We'll see what it does now with a set of regular QTP's, Ported FAST 90/90 and a good tune.

If it is real, go to gmrestoration.com and you can find one there. They now sell the OEM hoods. Anyone can order the firehawk hood there.

Call SLP yourself and ask them if it's real. I gave you a link to my fquick page that has my birth certificate and VIN # to prove it is real, although I shouldn't have to do that. Anyway, other than that, you are saying, if it was a fake I couldn't go there, but then you said, anyone can order the hood... lol... wow. Get your words straight man. Thanks.
