Default Ported 98' oil pump.. Have a question

My LS1 spun a rod bearing.. Im not too sure of the causes but Im rebuilding the motor right now..

I disassembled the pump and inspected everything looks great, rotors and all.

I Desided that there was not a significant difference in the ls6 pump. I fully ported out the intake port and the outlet port and greatly increased their ports volume.

And I shimmed the pump with a 1/8th shim per article on LS1 tech.

Ive read about the early LS1 having oil issues.. Mine is a 98 engine.. though even with the rod spun rod bearing it was still having 15-19 Psi At idle hot..

Whats the common failures, The check valves?

With my above said mods, can I still run this pump? Its clean and ready to go if so.

That is low oil pressure. Honestly, I would switch to the Melling 296 and be sure

Strongly agree.... why risk a rebuilt motor over $125 part.

I wouldn't risk it either. I went with the LS6 ported and shimmed pump when I did my cam swap. The extra insurance is worth the piece of mind.
