Re: Thinking of hooking up a heater.
The only bottle heater worth having is the NX kit. It will auto on/off to protect the bottle from too much, or in some cases, not enough pressure. Common sense will keep you from blowing up anything.

Re: Thinking of hooking up a heater.
Rex you really dont need the heater, give it to me!
Do a search bro. Heater keeps bottle pressure up, forget it and leave it on.....boom. If your hotlapping, then the heater will be your NeXt best friend as it will keep the bottle press. up and provide more consistent runs. You amy not get as many runs out of it because you'll be using more nitrous (actually the same amount you would if the bottle was fresh filled on the first run) like this off a 150 shot as example only:
no heater heater
run # N2O used run # N2O used
1st 2lb 1st 2lb
2nd 1.87 2nd 2lb
3rd 1.51 3rd 2lb
and so on.
Your times drop cause trhe dropin bottle pressure pushes less. raise pressure push the same.....i think thats how it works *scratching head*

Rex,
tell your friend to set down the crack pipe. Having a N2O kit without a bottle heater is doing things half ***. The guy who discussed bottle pressure was on track. You NEED a heater to keep bottle pressure in the optimal range (usually 950-1100 PSI). Do you have a pressure gauge? Just turn your heater on when you anticipate making a run (or being challenged to a race ) and glance at the gauge every few minutes. When it's in "the zone", turn the heater off.
Maybe I'm being a little harsh about the crack pipe thing, but a qualilty bottle will have an emergency release valve. That means if pressure gets up into the critical range somehow, the release valve will pop open and vent out the Nitrous. Your bottle will NOT blow up unless your release valve malfunctions. Furthermore, just be smart when you wire the heater. Run the power from a circuit that is hot only when the key is in and turned forward.
Happy hunting. Enjoy the silly sauce!

Re: Thinking of hooking up a heater.
I have the NX heater and would not run without it. Mine came with an on/off switch and the pressure sensor to automatically shut itself off. Mine seems to shut off around 950PSI on my gauge. Also, it is a necessity in any weather below 75*F, if you want full pressure. Just my $.02!

Re: Thinking of hooking up a heater.
heaters are your friend.
NX is the way to go.
THERE IS NO REASON NOT TO RUN ONE, OTHER THAN COST.
use a pressure or temp control device, and you will not "blow your $%%% up"
Even without one, your burst disk would blow first.
Ryan.
