Default lq9, lq4, ls1, ls2, etc etc? "fox swap"

well im far from a ls1,2,3,6,7, q's etc etc wizard!!! but i do have some of the knowledge of how to do a swap because of this website.
but im more confused on the whole types of ls motors that are available, out there i was thinking of just doing a lq4 or 9 which ever. i know the difference between the 4 and 9 but whats the difference in all the others. ls 34567 etc
ls based motors are they all the same?
is my thinking all wrong with trying to put a 6.0 lq4 or 9 in my fox.
i see the ls1s being placed into these foxs, is the lq4-9 not a ls1 or is it a ls2?

thanks
Ed

was wondering what is the difference amongst them.
lq4 is a dished piston 9-1 a lq9 is a flat top piston 10-1.
ls2 is all aluminum correct?
ls1, 3 4 5 6 7 what is the diffrence in the rest?
i wanna put the lq which ever in a fox.
is it a ls1? (lq4-9)

yes an lq9 is a ls based engine. It is iron instead of aluminum and some of the front assembly is different from car to truck.

as for power, You can make a bunch with any of them. I got a killer deal on a lq9 so I went that way for my Nova. You can even fit a 5.3 or 4.8 liter the same way but not the best to make it fast. It will still produce good power but you know you are leaving alot on the table compared to the 5.7 or 6.0.

an Ls2 is a 6.0 on a aluminum block and it has 10.8/1 compression. That is the way to go if you want the most hp stock, but may still be pricey to find one.

so, which engine is the LQ4/9 based off of? the LS1 or 2?I know parts can be swapped between the ls1/2 ( cam, heads, etc) What parts are common between the LS engines and the LQ stock for stock?
With hte LQs being a 6.0, id imagine them being an iron blocked version of the LS2, not a bored iron block version of the LS1, correct?

Go look at those wiki links I posted. Gen III car and truck motors are all very similar in design. Gen IV car and truck motors are also similar. However, there are significant differences between Gen III and IV motors.

LQ4/9 are Gen III, LS2 is Gen IV.

And FYI, Gen I is the old school SBC, Gen II is the LT1.

Im aware of what the generations were. I guess i misphrased my question, I thought there may have been a difference between generations of truck (vortec) and car engines.

The only difference I'm aware of is the bolt pattern in the ends of the cylinder heads. But you can put Gen III car accessories on the Gen III truck heads by drilling and tapping the missing holes. IIRC.
