Default True dual exhaust question

I have a 94 Z28 with a 383, stock heads and intake, LT4 hotcam, pacesetter short headers, no cat, SLP Loudmouth exhaust. Basically the car is loud and sounds like a truck! I need to get this thing sounding like a muscle car. I bought the car about a week ago and the current exhaust was already on it. I am wanting to change over to true duals, keeping the existing headers since they appear reasonably new, and the car is lowered and I dont want to mess with longtubes. The plan is to run an x-pipe with one chamber Flowmasters dumped before the axle. The big question is whether to run 2.5" or 3"? Im thinking that 2.5" would flow plenty, and plus the pipes on the existing y-pipe from the headers are 2.5", so it would mate up better. I will not be running cats BTW. But I see several people running 3", is it necessary at my power levels? Future plans are for ported stock heads and intake and a bigger/better cam, and possible nitrous. The car is a 6 speed with 4.10's.

2.5" exhaust is plenty for the level you plan on going to.....
there is nothing wrong with the 3"system but i feel it would be overkill unless you decide to instal cats on the car......

2.5" is plenty. i saw some pipe flow numbers on another site and the 2.5" could flow up to 800 HP (through a straight pipe) without any loss from the pipe.

if i could go back and do it again for the 4th time(had lots of differant exhausts), i would go with this setup. http://www.texas-speed.com/shop/item...d=195&catid=46

They also make true duals, but i don't know if it would fit the lt1s.

Good to see someone local on here. I grew up in Longview, went to Spring Hill, graduated in 98. Moved out here to Henderson about 2 years ago and wish I hadnt, nothing to really do out here.

What exhaust do you have on your car now?

My second exhaust was true duals, h pipe, twin dynomax bullets, dumped before the rear (best sounding).

From that i went to straight pipe out the sides (in front of the tires) off the headers, talk about sound like a truck.

Now i am running gaymaster, had to get back legal, the good news is my hearing is coming back.

I bought it from a guy in Troup, his name was Kevin. I found it on Craigslist.

Its pretty quick, if I can get it to hook up! The Fuzions that are on it now just arent cutting it. Im thinking of ditching the SS wheels for some black Z06 wheels so a pair of drag radials are in the near future. I havent been in Longview in awhile, several months. Might need to plan a trip and have some kind of GTG.

well there are plenty of us running around longview, we just don't hang out like we used to. It would be nice to get a big group together and go hang out sometime....

I dont know what springs are on mine exactly, just know its pretty low. Im thinking they are probably Eibach's. My local exhaust guy is one of the best IMO and I know he will be able to get it all tucked up close to the floor.

Man I remember the scene like 8 years ago when people were hanging out anywhere and everywhere and racing up and down the loop, on Fisher Rd, and out on Industrial.

3 is doable if you have a good exhaust guy, but 2.5 will work just fine.

Yeah from time to time. Back then I would have been either driving my black 90 Mustang hatch(306, 4.10's, one chamber flows, etc.) or my red 91 Toyota MR2. People who know/knew me remember both cars, both were fairly fast.
