Hey guys,

When I swapped my 9" on the car, I didn't connect up the E-brake...infact I think its missing a couple pieces for it to even work

Is there a problem leaving my car in gear after I've been driving it? I have a Spec 5.

I'm more concerned with when I go to the track or beat on the car and the clutch gets warm and then having it sit in gear

Could this cause any problems? The Spec 5 has the Iron pucks...

I would suggest fixing your E-brake. Keep in mind that high-temperatures and two hot metal surfaces don't always lead to the best results (though based on the high Iron content of stage 5 welding is not as likley). In fact...I can't remember anyone ever having an issue of welding a stage 5 (though I have talked to a few stage 3 and stage 3+ guys that have had this issue). Fix the E-brake anyway and then you won't have to worry about it...Right!!! :-)

Newb question here, how exactly would it be different if he left it in gear as opposed to neutral with the e-brake on? I'm assuming the car is parked and shut off when this is happening. If I'm thinking about this right the weight of the car will apply pressure to the clutch disk if its not on a completely level surface and cause it to fuse together? Sorry for the dumb Q I never heard of this being a problem before.

With the clutch out, the surface is engaged weather it is in nutral or gear. Does not matter.

Yeah...no kidding that was a stupid answer on my part...the real answer should have been: If you get it hot then you ought to let it cool down a bit (even to the point of keeping your foot on the clutch pedal while parked after a run) to help reduce the chances of this happening--though again on a stage 5 the potential for this is minimal. Another thing you ought to consider is line-lock...if you don't already have it...which will help reduce the stresses on both the clutch and brakes during burnouts.

but it wouldn't be a good idea to leave the line lock on, it'll get hot and burn up after a little bit, correct?

He means use the line lock for the burnout, not as a brake. That would put undue use on the line lock.

The line lock probably wouldn't work anyway, because it's electronic... even if you hooked it to an unswitched power wire (which you shouldn't do), it'd drain the battery eventually.

Yea, Line locks are only intended for short uses. Although I have used them in traffic or while trying to negotiate a hill. Just would not leave it on for very long.

If you park a car on a fairly steep hill and just leave it in gear the car can slowly roll down the hill.This is because the weight of the car going through the tranny will spin the motor.

The line lock WILL kill the battery over a long period of time. Ask me how I know! Although it will be fine for a short amount of time, like say a few hours or so. Still a good idea to fix your e-brake first.

what if you put the car in Reverse while parked on a steep hill.I'm no expert on trannys and all the gear changes that go on in a manual trans especially. Either way, just use your e-brake.Otherwise a flat surface, I don't really see anything bad happening.

fix the ebrake or get a block of wood. no matter what gear you leave it in it will creep and move eventually. surprised no one said use a block of wood yet actully, quick, easy, cheap untill you do fix the e-brake

It does matter what gear you leave it in. Leave it in first or reverse being that they should be about the same ratio. If you leave it in second gear it will creep a little depending on the incline but then stop because it builds compression in the motor and then that will hold it. Block of wood is a good one too lol

I transplanted a T-5 into my 86 monte carlo SS and I never used the ebrake(for fear of it freezing stuck) and I parked on a some hills too. On the level or small incline you have absolutely nothing to worry about. I almost never use the ebrake on my 96 t-5 bird either. Only if im on a really steep hill just for added security. They only other time I use the ebrake is for doin 180s in the snow

But still always a good idea to fix it. IMHO you would be fine leaving it in 1first gear.
