Guys Im looking to buy an f-body with an LS1. A friend of my uncles is selling a 99 Z that is as follows:4,300 miles, fullyloaded, 6-speed bm ripper, leather, hotchkiss lowersprings and sway bar, HPP3, slp y-pipe, flowmaster 3 inch exhaust, monsoon, and I believe an LS6 manifold with it. He wants 17,000 for it, but loan value is 16,125. What do you guys think. I truly want an TA, WS6, or SS. The Z body is aight. But the miles are so low. Should I go for it?

Has this car been beat on, I wouldn't buy a car that has been driven hard. But that just me.

well, the owner says that he used the hpp3 to raise the rev limiter to 6,600. He says he didnt get it on it much. Its super clean (pewter w/black top) very pretty. Two things are holding me back he wants more then the loan value, and the regular zbody isnt flashy enough for me. But damn when I started it I was hooked. It sounded baddass with the 3 inch flowmaster exhaust and the slp y-pipe. I wonder if I would learn to the appearence with time

The rev limiter comment sounds a little strange, but 6,600 miles isn't too bad at all. Do you know the car's history? Is it a 1-owner car?
You could always buy an SS hood, and some wheels.

he is the original owner, it has 4,300 miles, and sounded wicked as hell. I have thought about the hood. Only thing is its worth about 900 less then what he is asking

I'd say go for it, except for the fact that there is probably no warranty with it. The only thing that saved me when I bought my car was the GM Protection 3 month warranty because shortly after buying it the car needed about $2000 worth of work done to it. So that in my mind is the one nice thing about buying from a dealer. But on the other hand this car has under 5K on it, and already has some good baseline mods done to it. Styling be damned, IMO the Z28 looks just fine, although 17 inch wheels would have been nice, still, i get plenty of compliments on my car. Good luck though.

I say get the SS or the WS6 otherwise you will second guess that decision forever.

Zeequick... the car is out of Parma, just thought that was funny.
Pro Stock John...I think your right, I was just amazed by how low the miles are,and how clean the car is

Best to get what you want if you can. For $17,000 beans you can find an SS...

You forgot to put "with 60k miles on it."

Dude, if you really like the Pewter Z then get it. You can always put an SS-style or 4" Cowl Hood to liven up it's appearance anyway. Same thing with changing the rims, grille, and adding window tint it you choose.

4,300 miles on a clean '99 is phenominal IMO. Your basically getting a perfect car.

I say go for it and don't let a little hood scoop be the difference in changing your mind. ;) Now on the other hand, if your 100% dead-set on getting a Firebird with the WS6 package, then keep looking.

Good luck,

Mike

Tell him you'll give him 15,750..he will probaly say no, 16500, and you say no, how about 16,000 and he might say yes :D

Why would you want a flashy car? Maybe its just me, but I always loved the idea of a sleeper. Debadge it, and scare a few people on the roads

Also only 4k on it, thats like a brand new car which was finally broken into.

And the whole "beating on a car" thing. Roy "Drivesatransam" got his TA and I remember driving with him. He BEAT on that damn thing. Flooring it, slamming on the breakes, it was crazy. He's runnin 11.2's now with few mods, its sick. To each as his own!

Good Luck :drive:

Once I get my LS1 I need some people to roll with, all my friends own either stangs or imports

I say take it. LS1 Z28s are rare--rarer than SS Camaros.

Find out through local F-body clubs if anyone remembers that car at the track; see what she ET'd.

I got my 98Z for 10k with 60k miles, im at 90k and have had no problems besides wear items (belts, tensioners, lights, etc). And the A4 still breaks my new tires loose going into 2nd. :)

For $17K, you can find newer Z28s with just as low mileage. Doesn't seem like a screaming bargain to me, Z28s have the worst resale value of any LS1 f-body. They truly are a "dime a dozen". I've seen 2000-2001 Z28s with less than 10K selling for less than $20K.

Hell, Chris Endres was selling his 2002 Sunset Orange SS (6-speed) for only $20K reserve on ebay and it only had like 10K miles on it and a full factory warranty.

Shop around, get what you want. Only "settle" for something if the price is a screaming deal. A "fair" deal won't cut it if you are buying something you really don't desire.

You should get what you want. Even if you buy this car you'll be so excited at first that you'll put $$ into it only to realize later that it's not what you really wanted (at least that's happened to me).

On the other hand, it's always good to buy a car off of a relative or friend since the likely hood that they'll sell you a basket case (without telling you about it) is usually extremely low.
