Default Is there away to prevent headlight motor tabs from bending?

I pulled the head light motor yesterday and plan on installing the new gear for it later tonight but I had a question on the tabs for the headlight motor. I've hammered the tabs back down so the metal housing is secure again to get the "slop" out that originally caused the moter to strip the gears out.

After hammering the tabs back into place has anyone found away to keep the headlight motor tabs from bending back out and thus causing the gear to be stripped? My thinking is that without intervention the tabs would probably work themselves lose again plus everytime they end up being bent they'd end up weaker than the time before.

Thanks for the info
