Default Steering column

Ok this may be a dumb question but I have never ran into this issue and had to look into it. My TA is geting a good amount of play in the steering and I am planning to get it fixed.

Someone mentioned to me they heard the LS1 cars came with a better setup and I should find one to replace mine.

I always thought they had the same thing. If this is not true any suggestions on any good after market setup's or just go OEM? The car is used as a daily driver and ocassional fun at the track.

Could be the rag joint. LS1's have a coupler and so the rag joint is eliminated. I don't know if they will interchange though. I'm thinking about buying this: http://www.unbalancedengineering.com/Camaro/Rag_Joint/

Not bad, looks pretty simple to switch but probably a pain to reach.
About how much does that run?

if it is the lower section of the column then yes the rag joint could definately be the source of the problem.......
the Ls1 lower column/shaft is a more solid unit...

They are $36 then like $5 for shipping. I think the stock rubber rag joint is riveted in so it would be easier to pull out the whole thing to drill out the rivets.

Wow, I thought this was going to be a much more expensive repair. Any special tools involved for this?

Also so if I understand you correctly 96LT1m6, the LS1 column is interchangeable?
