anybody running the ebay HID kits??

these are with xenon bulbs for 75 bucks shipped


these are 70 bucks shipped


i cant justify spending 250 for HIDs if i can get comparable ones for 70 freakin bucks

you can choose the temperature of your bulbs from 4300k to 12000k

what are your thoughts?

You can't expect that kit to last at how cheap it is. It's better to buy OEM components because they are of higher quality and known to last. The kits are a crapshoot no matter really what you spend.

If you are set on getting a kit, I wouldn't go above 6000k. The color may look cool to you but it the output only gets dimmer the higher in temp you go.

Stay with either 6000K or 4300K. 6000K has a nice bluish white look to them. I am not sure how reliable the $70 HID kits are.

this is a pretty interesting thread. i am actually curious about this too. i might end up getting them. $250 for hids seems kind of steep to me.

this kit was 99 shipped and the ballast were like the size three credit cards stacked on top of each other, yes the corners look ugly but they are on their way out, this is 8000 temp output at first when you turn them on the look almost blue but after they warm up they turn like a bright white color. this is my friends car by the way, the pic is comparing he supposedly badass sylvania superstars...

It's always better to buy OEM stuff. The problem with the $70 ones is that they might be DOA. Which means you can send em back but it's a PITA. I have $70 in my civic and they have been chuggin along strong for a couple months. I can tell the ballasts are poorly built but it was more of a joke than anything. Then I have a $250 set in my fog lights on my trans am and only one ballasts works. Nathan is taking care of it but it was dead when i got it. I have OEM philips in my headlights and even with my wiring all fucked up they still worked!

OEM doesn't mean its chevy OEM components smart guy. There is a good reason why HID don't belong in a halogen housing.

Have fun with the $70 HID kit....let me know if it even fires up.

my $70 started up. my $250 one didn't. Both were not OEM, both are prolly the same quality, yet the cheaper one has lasted longer.

OEM > all others though.

Kits are kits...enough said. A $70 can work ok and so could a $400 kit, but it can also go the other way.

As far as warranties go, many of the people that I know that have had kit issues have had a hell of a time getting replacement components. When they could get replacement parts they wasted money shipping components back and forth.

It just isn't worth it in most cases but that isn't to say that all of them don't work. Many obviously do.

I actually used to have a kit in my car and it worked flawlessly, but it doesn't even compare the quality and performance of a proper lighting retrofit.
