Default For those LT1s with aluminum driveshafts

When you installed the aluminum driveshaft, do you feel any performance difference?

No. I installed an aluminum driveshaft in my old 95 z and I didn't notice a thing.

I wouldnt install it for a performance gain, but rather to get rid of the annoying vibration you receive with the stock steel peice. And like the above poster said, you wont notice any gains. Just a smoother ride at higher speeds

thats exactly why i did it, just because i wanted to cruise at 100 mph without a vibration is a good enough reason for me!

Maybe i just dont pay attention to the vibes because i'm unfamiliar. Well, then how noticeable is the vibration loss?

it all depends on how bad your stock one is.

You would definitely notice the vibration. On my car it seemed to start around 75-80 mph. I'm going to replace my driveshaft. I just have to decide with what. I wish I would have been aware of the TSB back when it might have made a difference.

I too installed an aluminum driveshaft just to get rid of the vibration the stock DS had...it started at 75-80mph....and at higher speeds with the poly trans mount...it was unbarable.

I replaced mine before I installed the turbo and I thought I felt a slight difference, but it was probably the placebo effect. Anytime you reduce rotational mass there should be a slight performance gain of few HP. But I too, did it because of the vibration.

Most people replaced the driveshaft because of vibrations occuring at higher speed. Some for for weight reduction, others for strength(brutal drag racing launches).

Believe it or not, there was a recall for this very problem and the solution was to replace steel driveshaft with a 1LE. Only those cars retaining a GM warranty were honored.

I've installed aluminum shafts on quite a few Fbodies over the years.
Increase in HP is minimal at the top end, but the reduced weight and lack of vibration at highway speeds is awesome.

it has been dyno proven for 1 horse, and a few lb. feet of torque
but the reduction in vibration is amazing its like a whole new car w no vibrations above 90

lmao, you can't "dyno prove" something for 1 horse. That small of a change can be seen with no modifications.

Until you snap that dinky aluminum shell-cardboard filled driveshaft in two...

I did it for the vibe issue as well. Didn't notice any performance gain. I wish I could say I did but I can't. I will say it felt like a new car at 80mph.
