Default A/C blows but not cold, won't accept refrigerant

I want to get my A/C fixed before summertime. I was absolutely miserable driving to work in my uniform with the blistering sun. I wanted to get the A/C fixed over the wintertime or with my tax refund. So, my A/C blows air, but its not cold. I tried adding refrigerant, and it flies to the red-zone on the gauge, meaning something is faulty. Only thing I have tried is to bleed the lines from air and try again. No luck. Where should I start?

Did you draw a vacuum on the system first?

If you have had the system open.. or it has had a leak a vacuum must be drawn for it to suck in the refridgerant.. probably going to have to have it done at dealer, or somewhere that has a AC machine.

Is the compressor coming on? If you just hook up a gauge to the low side the "static" pressure will be high - should lower when it comes on. Check any fuses to do with the AC also. Here's a chart for the LT1 if you need it: http://shbox.com/1/ac_performance_chart.jpg Might be easier to just bring it to a shop and have them diagnose it for you then go from there.

dont forget to check the high pressure switch if that goes bad your compressor will not run. i would check to see if it was ok if you had a gauge in the red.
