Default Newb Question - Cold Air Intake

So I've been told that is stock tubing, with a K&N filter and the air box removed. But what makes that stock tubing less effective than a cold air intake? It looks very similar to any of the cold air intakes for F-Body's.

Someone un-newb me.

First that isn't the stock tubing. Second, it's not really a "cold" air intake because the filter is up in the engine bay. The point of the "cold" part is to relocate the filter down below so it takes in mostly cold air.

Would the Moroso Cold Air Intake Tube and that K&N Filter do the trick?

a cai tube is larger than the stock one. also on my formula you cant see the filter from the engine bay, making it a real cold air intake
