How much boost can a 3.4 take and would it be worth it to build to handle more? Goal is 400 bhp its for a buddy of mine.

are you talking about the 3.4 V6 in the camaro's and firebirds? your post are rather vague. some guys have built these up to 500rwhp.

There was a guy with a thread here a while back with one of these and a front mount turbo kit but can't remember what he made. Wasn't 500rwhp though but I am sure it can be done if 800rwhp+ can be done on a 5.7

Ya I remember that, they were inmpressive numbers at that but don't remember exactly though. Now he kinda went the other way with the car though and is deep into 4 digits with power.

they are 3.4s up to 95. then went to 3.8.
I made ~350 rwhp on a stock short block. So it is doable.

Not a lot. I wouldn't go above 8psi personally. But I would sooner drive the car into a tree and collect insurance money than I would try to make that motor do something worthwhile, so take my advice with a grain of salt.
It'd be about as economically feasible as sending the military in Iraq to babysit for 10 years. So basically, no, not worth it. No disrespect for the troops, I have the upmost respect and admiration of you all.
400whp? Good luck. You'd be better off buying a Honda. What's sad is that I'm not even joking.
He has a custom rear mount and wants to keep up with a ls2 gto.
And the rear mount is just going to make his goal much harder to reach. He seriously needs to examine his methods if he thinks he can plausibly get a 400whp rear-mount 3.4.
Wasn't 500rwhp though but I am sure it can be done if 800rwhp+ can be done on a 5.7
Remember though, today's 5.7l LS1s are the best engines ever made. They have very efficient and powerful ignition systems stock, compared to the, ummmmm, trying to think of a smarta$$ way to call it ugly heavy inefficient unexplainably large unreliable and pain in the a$$ to change distributor on the 3.4. The LS1 also has great cylinder heads, compared to the iron logs with very small holes in them that find their way onto the 3.4. The LS1 is just on a completely different level of factory engineering, and cannot be remotely compared to the 3.4 OHV engine. The 2.8 and 3.4 iron beasts are some of the worst motors GM has ever made. The only thing they were good at was being cheap. And the fact that this guy still has one, and then put a rear mount turbo on it, should say a lot about his financial devotion to his automobile.
Really though, the 3.4 is that bad!

i plan to try it with my old 94 v6 and when it blows then it will get a LS2 and a real turbo maybe a 88-91.

Thats basically what I told him ,just crank the boost til she blows and then ls1 or 5.3 upgrade. Heck, even a LT1 would be an upgrade.lol
