Well after all the new parts, I finally got it tuned. Check out my fquick for all the mods. I took it to Norris Motorsports cause he tuned it origionally. Everyone claims his dyno reads low, but oh well.

So the Standard numbers are

421.1rwhp and 395rwtq

SAE numbers are

410rwhp and 384.6rwtq

I am pretty happy with that on my stock 122k bottom end.

So the difference in the car was a different cam and the intake?? I see why you swapped out the cam.

I've been bitching and moaning saying I want 400 rwhp. Guess I gotta put my money where my mouth is soon or else everyone is going to leave me behind.

Hey, thanks for the offer!!! What else do i need to do for the cam? isnb't there vavle springs, roller rockers, and things that I need at the same time? I have NO IDEA what cam to pick. Just know that I want one.

Nice pickup on the swap. Definitely awesome that you gained alot on topend and didnt have to sacrifice any lowend to get it.

Cam to pick depends on what you are looking for in driveability etc. You dont drive your car much, so my cam would probably work great. The Futral 13 and 14 are nice. Mine is somewhere between. You need stronger springs, and I would do all the valve seals too. You can, but dont have to do an oil pump, depends on how good your pressure is now. Not terrible and takes a day to put it all together. Hell it would probably cost less then your brakes did. Then you need a tune. THats in the area of about $350 for a dyno tune.

I think I would look into headers first though. Again, the Pacesetters are cheap.

So for about $1000 you could have a cam and headers. Hows that sound? Then get it tuned, and with your motor I wouldnt be surprised if you got close to me even without heads. Mine has a lot of blowby.

wow, thousand bucks is TEMPTING!!!! didn't know it was that cheap. than around $350 for Norris to tune it up for me.

Yup, and you got another pm. I also vote for the pacesetters. Get them from Texas speed and their y-pipe without cats.

cam, intake, ported TB and under drive pulley for the 30 rwhp gain.

old cam
vinci 060
228/232 .551/.551 112LSA +5

new cam
230/236 .60x/.60x 112 LSA +4

all changed at once, so don't know what gave him the most. congrats on getting past the 400 rwhp mark. should beat a supercharger guy we both know.....

Jason! You old timer, you should know how much cams are! :)

You can get a bumpstick for under 3 bills. Install is simple once you get past the "I'm installing a cam" factor. You can do it all by yourself, especially since your car isn't a DD...take your time and learn. You'll need the incidentals, springs, timing chain, and the damn torque to yield bolts, etc. After that it's paying for a tune. Do it!

Congrat's on the numbers John. Get it out to the track and see what kind of times she's worth. I'd say you'll be seeing. 12.2-12.3's or better with good DA and MT drag radials. Have you done any weight reduction yet?

mnypitZ

No plans of weight reductions. I dont have a spare or jack, but thats about it. I want it to look as close to stock as possible from the outside. Yeah I know the huge tires on teh back kinda give it away and the lope and noise, but......................

My wife said I had to set goals, so I did. I hit the 400 mark, now on to 500. Somehow I dont think this is what she was talking about, but you cant say I didnt listen to her.

Here is a video of the car in the drive after the tune.

By the way Jason, when I did the origional cam the items I replaced were, timing chain, oil pump, valve springs, valve seals, timing cover seals and the cam. I bought them slowly one at a time til I had it all sitting on my floor. We ended up not doing the oil pump due to a stripped bolt and the fact that my old one was extremely strong and likely allready done at some point. I bought this cam from a performance shop in the Carolinas that had bought it for a customer and never used it, so great deal and brand new.

I still think you need supporting mods to let it breath too, but plenty of guys are running just the cam and getting good numbers. I would think a less tired engine should be capable of more then mine.

I agree. Flame away but I did not pick up that much with the headers. I upped the boost from 3 to 5psi at the same time, and went from manifolds with a cut out to headers and magnaflow, and went from 375 to 407. I attribute most of that to the boost.... Stick a cam in in and maybe an LS6 intake.....

I'm going to stop stealing your thread and create another one...

As I have said in person, John, that car sounds like a beast, and that was with the other cam. WOW. Is that the Futral 13 with 112 LSA?

mnypitZ
02-23-2008, 08:27 AM
Yeah but you are boosted. I think as inexpensive and easy as headers are it is worth the investment on an NA car. Even if its marginal gains.

No it falls somewhere between the F13 and F14. Someone else called it a F13 and a half.
