use playdoh, clay ect...

just bolt down the heads w/2-5 bolts, with the clay installed, fix you're valve train and spin the motor. pull he head off, and check the clay w/ a mic. works like a charm ;D

Make sure you tighten the head bolts down first, otherwise you won't get an accurate reading.

I use test springs and an adjustable pushrod.Just adjust pushrod to 0 play and rotate motor and check clearence with a dial indicator on the spring while pushing the spring/rocker down by hand.

Don't you need to use a solid lifter? I thought the hydraulic lifters would bleed down.

With a test spring it will not bleed down

Ditto! Why pull the heads to check clearance when all you have to do is pull a couple valve springs?

You need at least 1 adjustable pushrod and 1 checking spring, you can get a dial indicator at harbor freight or any good tool place.

It isn't local, but it is internet - Comp Cams sells the springs and dial indicator along with degree wheel and box for $185.57. It might be cheaper from a sponsor ...
