Post military job?
Alright so my job is Aircraft Armament Systems. Basically I load bombs and maintain the weapons systems on aircraft (fighters/bombers)
I've only been in 2.5 yrs and will cross train if I can but if I can't I'll probably end up getting out. So I dont really know what I'm going to do as far as a career. Not many airliners need chaff/flare (yet) so thats kinda where I'm out. I had a year of school before I joined but haven't been able to take classes because of my flexible work hours. On one shift one week and another the next/coming in at different times every day/working 12 hrs/day on avg. Honestly I'd be lucky to be able to CLEP some classes.

you could always try a federal job after you get out... still counts towards retirement thats my plan! Also another thing is if you really like aircraft go to school to become and a&p. My brother went to school for like 18 months i believe and got out with a job around $20 or so an hour

However, do NOT just limit yourself to working for an airline. Airlines contract out their maintenance to a plethra of contractors that work on aircraft.
Look for FAA Part 145 Repair Stations, most of the time an A&P is not required, but usually helps on the pay scale.
I currently supervise aircraft maintenance for one of those Part 145's, there are plenty of opportunities.
Besides, you couldn't pay me enough to actually work for an airline. Job security is horrible where you could have a job one day, be on strike the next, or just get laid off. Look up the NWA debacle from 2005/2006.
Good luck tho!!

To get his A&P I dont think he can just got to shool for 18 months. Im not really sure on how it works on the school aspect though. I do know you need either 18 months for your "A" or "P" or 30 months total. I used to be a B1 crewdawg and got my A&P a few years back but luckily my *** got the **** out of maint and went to the firedawg side. I had experince on airframe and engines so I was just able to get my tickets. He will need to go to school for sure being from weapons. My advice would look and into doing that now while your in not when you get out, it will make it a lot harder.
