Default How old is too old for tires???

I am looking to buy a used set of tires. A local tire company here has a set of 275 40 17 Goodyear ZR40 that I am looking at buying for my front wheels. They still have about 60-70% tread left on them, BUT are 19 years old according to the DOT code on them which shows a 3 digit code of 089.

They want $140 which includes tax. The tires do not have any cracks or signs of aging and have been in a warehouse. They look good, but are these safe to drive on? Thx.

lol! 089 doesnt mean they are 19 yrs old. they are 9 yrs old. they are from 1999. and too old to be trusted. they have a "shelf" life of 3 yrs and a "street" life of 5-6 yrs. anything past that is in gods hands
