So now what these assholes will do is cruise the street and instigate other kids to race them and then try to get them for drag racing. What other reason is there to have that car as a police cruiser??

I asked the officer how they took the car and she (yes female) told me that the owner was pulled over and they searched the car. Found drugs and took the car. She says when that happens the car must 1st goto auction and the money made goes to the state. If the car does not get sold then the police station can claim the car as there own.

The kick in the ass also was that the drugs found in the WS6 was the passengers and he stuffed it in the car. But that does not matter in IL, the owner always takes fault.

I have friends that are in the fire academy and they share the same building with the police academy. They told me those car just set there. These cars are most likely going to be used at police EVENTS and never on the street.

If one of my friends had drugs and they took my car, I would be sitting on death row. If it was taking away for me being stupid that's one thing, for someone else, someones getting hurt bad and it ain't going to be me.

When I was in massachusetts, I saw a mustang GT (99-04) that was a undercover police officer pulling over a car on the Mass Pike. It was pretty funny. I'm not going to lie. The handa civic rolls up, matched his speed, and then does a "ricer flyby" past the officer, probibly getting up to a speed of 85mph.. Then the cop turns on his lights and procedes to pull him over. I was in the right hand lane and the cop was 2 cars in front of me.

I had no clue that it was a police officer until I saw the lights go on in the back window.. Then I started laughing pretty hard.

I'm pretty sure that the car was taken from a street racer, since it didnt look stock and sounded pretty nice as the cop passed me in the passing lane.

Sucks that they can do that, but like it was explained before in post #20, it is attained through legal avenues. I would think they would use it maybe once a month or less. They have a few SRT cars, Mustangs, and LS1 cars here, not to mention plain jane jeeps and trucks.

Something does tell me that those cars did not have tens of thousands in them and I don't think North Carolina has a lot of laws on what you can't have. Not like its California were you pretty much have to have a stock car so I am not seeing how they pulled all this stuff off of it......... also can't see them spending tax dollars to get it on the dyno to prove the power claims....

I thought it was illegal for them to instigate a street race. So Im guessing that they are just using these to do normal traffic stops and also use them as undercover so that speeders don't slow down when they see them.
Anyways, that would suck to have your car taken away. Thats why im out of the fast car scene and into old English cars that have like 60hp.LOL

We used to have a city cop here who drove an unmarked white 5.0 who would instagate street races.....he wore his uniform, so only the idiots or those who didn't pay attention ran him. Happily, he totaled out the 5.0, wasn't hurt, but no more intraptment for him.Our SHP now has several different colors of Chargers, some base, some 5.7s, but all over 4500lbs with all the equipment.But at least they don't instagate and then pull you over.Hopefully, with the formation of the new dragstrip near Lowes Motor Speedway, those street racers will be smart and keep it on the strip rather than lose their cars to the bacon patrol.

They never said they instigated them. Don't have to, how many times do you see people pull up to others and just punch it? Or see races up in front of you?

They just want to blend in, when you go to race and look in your rear view you look for cops, you would not suspect a blue mustang in a pack of others.......

NC has a law that IIRC states if the vehicle is knowingly used in the commission of a felony the vehicle can be seized and either auctioned off or used by the dept.

Now as far as the street racing deal, Im not 100% sure on that. But I wouldnt be surprised if it reads with something similar as the above.

When any officer of the law discovers that any person has operated or is operating a motor vehicle willfully in prearranged speed competition with another vehicle on a street or highway he shall seize the motor vehicle and deliver the same to the sheriff of the county in which such offense is committed, or the same shall be placed under said sheriff's constructive possesion.

The vehicle shall be held by the sheriff pending the trial of the person arrested.... the sheriff shall restore the seized vehicle to the owner upon execution by the owner of a good and valid bond, with sufficient sureties, in an ammount DOUBLE of the value of the property upon the acquittal of the person charged with operating said motor vehicle the sheriff shall return the vehicle to the owner therof.

Selling for auction: however, if the court should find that such equipment and modifications are so extensive that it would be impractical to restore said vehicle to its origional manufactured condition, then the court may order that the vehicle be turned over to such governmental agency or public official within the territorial jurisdiction of the court as the court shall see fit to be used in the performance of official duties only and not for resale

Unfortunately, Law enforcement can confiscate any vehicle that is used during the commission of certain felonious acts. The drivers were probably given the choice between surrendering their vehicles or paying a FAT fine. Really sucks if you think about it. Makes you not want to street race. If my car had better handeling characteristics, and wasn't set up for the drag strip, then i don't know if I would stop. Especially if I had 600-700 rwhp. There is no way they could catch you as long as you could keep it under control. The trick would be to get away before they could call for reinforcement up ahead, or the chopper. Once they have multiple units, getting away seems to me like it becomes far less likely.

all i have to say is if a cobra or 350z with a front mount intercooler and cabon fiber hood tried to pull me over i would not stop.... how many ricers do you see with leds all over there cars start flashing there lights if they wanna race or just show off. have a fun time in court with that, Police: why didnt you stop????????????
