Default Sewing machine under my hood...

just this week i noticed that my valve train sounds like a sewing machine and i can hear it inside my car with the windows up over my magnaflow. the motor has been idling harder than the hotcam i had in on a 112lsa. right now i have a tsp 224r .581/.581 114lsa and comp 918s. im running mobil 1 10w30.

is this normal? should i be running a heavier weight oil?

What length are the pushrods? I went with 7.425 instead of 7.4 and my valvetrain sounds like it did when it was stock

If i remember correctly, pushrod length is what has to do with the sewing machine noise. Maybe someone with a little more knowledge than myself can chime in. I would do a search on the sewing machine issue and see what length pushrods guys were using to quiet down the valvetrain

I would also like to know how to quiet down my valve train, I have a 224/220 cam and the valve train is noticeably louder than stock but I can't really hear it with the windows up. I know its annoying as hell when I have the windows down and I'm next to the center median.

LS1s are known for their sewing machine sound. Those 7.425PRs may be what you need to quiet her down a little.

how many qts of oil are you using ? i had a similar problem and i was only using 5.5 qts after my h/c install. once i added another .5 qt ,belive it or not ,my valvetrain quiet down and everything seems to be getting along just fine. i found out that 6 qts is the magic number after all.

You wont damage it, youll just have to deal with the sound. 7.425 may not be the magic number for your setup, but a pushrod checker and measure the proper length you need.

Check your rocker arms for needle bearing loss too, once some of the needle bearings are lost the valvetrain will get noisier.

FYI I have a head cam car and my valvetrain is very quiet, even with the fast intake which usually makes you able to hear the valvetrain even more.
