Exclamation R.I.P. Boyd Coddington

Figured that this forum was as appropriate a place as any to put this:

Boyd passed away today at 63

I hope that the way he was shown on TV was just a "stage persona", but regardless, I'm glad that his work exposed more people to our hobby...

Heard about this earlier. He was always super stressed on the TV show and it seems a lot of people didn't really like him, but it's definitely a loss to the car community. His show helped bring our hobby/lifestyle into peoples homes.

I didn't always like all of his work. but a lot of it Yes and some No... He was a great man to the Hot Rod World anyway and a trend setter.

RIP... Boyd....

boyd was always stumbling around like ozzy osbourne. remember the episode when he was too fat to fit in the monster truck? his health was on the decline, it was evident.

Not really a fan of his work or attitude but that is definitely a big loss to the hot rod community. RIP Boyd

Yeah definitely a loss to the Hot Rod community. I grew up reading about Boyd and always idolised him but his show used to **** me off all the time. Who could work under those conditions, I don't know if it was just the way the show was supposed to be just to make it more appealing to viewers or what but being in the business I wouldn't last a day working for someone like that. R.I.P. Boyd.......

Like him or not, he was a trendsetter. I think he was pretty much the guy that started the whole "billet" thing in the 80's.

Like Hot Rod said in the last issue- "They're leaving us" Smokey Unick, Gray Baskerville, "Dandy" Dick Landy, Robert Petersen, Wally Parks, Evel, now Boyd (plus I'm sure I missed some in there). There needs to be some kind of way of honoring and remembering these guys- they made our hobby what it is today, and changed the American culture.

They knocked down Smokey's garage to put up a goddamn office building for pete's sake.

Sucks.

It was a bad week for hot rodders because, 4 days after Boyd, we also lost 'Lil John' Buttera.

damn, I didn't know that. Another icon gone. His old partner Dennis Rolaine did the chassis on my mini- RB automotive in Kenosha (the "B" was Buttera).
