Figured that this forum was as appropriate a place as any to put this:
Boyd passed away today at 63
I hope that the way he was shown on TV was just a "stage persona", but regardless, I'm glad that his work exposed more people to our hobby...

Yeah definitely a loss to the Hot Rod community. I grew up reading about Boyd and always idolised him but his show used to **** me off all the time. Who could work under those conditions, I don't know if it was just the way the show was supposed to be just to make it more appealing to viewers or what but being in the business I wouldn't last a day working for someone like that. Like him or not, he was a trendsetter. I think he was pretty much the guy that started the whole "billet" thing in the 80's.
Like Hot Rod said in the last issue- "They're leaving us" Smokey Unick, Gray Baskerville, "Dandy" Dick Landy, Robert Petersen, Wally Parks, Evel, now Boyd (plus I'm sure I missed some in there). There needs to be some kind of way of honoring and remembering these guys- they made our hobby what it is today, and changed the American culture.
They knocked down Smokey's garage to put up a goddamn office building for pete's sake.
Sucks.
