Unhappy Dang, I Need To Know

NEWBIE QUESTION; what is the rear width from from flange to flange on 01SS fbody..............i have a chance to buy 1972 12 bolt chev.chevelle housing thats 56inches backing plate to backing place (stock).. but info i found has 58.5 flange to flange, or 62.5inches with brake drums..
CAN U I USE THIS 12 BOLT?? what about spring mounts etc etc...i can buy maybe 300.bux....gm part #3917124

59 3/8 from backing plate mount to backing plate mount. I dont think i would buy it though, that is a leaf spring rear isn't it? and alot of fabbing perches among other things.

no leaf spring mounts, anybody else have some info...i know guys have gone this route....is it worth it???......the 12 bolt housing is a 1972chevy chevelle is stock and bare......

IMO no it's not worth it.

There is a reason a moser/etc 12 bolt costs what it does...there's a good amount of fabrication going into it. Not to mention it would be brand new, not 35 years old and have questionable parts inside

If you don't want to get a new one for $2,200-$2,500+, hang around the for sale section and pick up a used f-body 12bolt/9 inch. People sell them all the time when selling cars, and you can save money AND get a great rear that fits no questions asked.

Just my .02.
