Street Racing & Kill Stories - New Viper vs C6 ZO6(Both Stock)

I was coming from a friends house and stopped at the gas station, when this Green 08 Viper pulls right behind me. We immediately engage in coversation about each other's vehicles. He also said he loved my plates "V-10 BTR" So I thought I would ask if he wanted to do a couple of hwy runs for fun. He said yes to my surprise, maybe I shouldn't have stereotyped the older gentleman. So we head out to I-5 and go from about a 45 roll. 3rd honk & he jumps about a half car, bang 2nd and we are neck and neck, hit 3rd we are within inches of each other and slow at about 130 or so with me up by a half car. Next race was from same speed but he missed 3rd. 3rd race was from about 30mph. 3rd honk he jumps me half car immediately, I hit 2nd I inch up but no gain really, 3rd I'm side by side with him, 4th he is starting to pull about 4ft(nose) on me. we shut down at like 145 150ish. It was alot of fun to see both cars asses shake on the hard shifts, trying to get our 345's to stick to the pavement. It was also really hard to see who was faster, because I think I was a better driver than he was, only because I have had my car for almost a year, him 3 weeks. Well we actually got out and talked for about an hour, and we are going to take some driving lessons(road racing) together in May.

Sounds like some great runs. I bet you won't run into another brand new viper that wants to run any time soon. lol

Yeah I was really surprised! Those things are torque monsters with 600hp to boot!!! And it also sounds a lot better than the older SRT's. I actually loved the color too!:nod:

Actually if you read the reviews the new Viper is only slightly faster then the Z06. Even when Danicka Patrick test drove it she said it sounded faster then it was...and she expected more from the top end.
Someone feel free to correct me if I am wrong about this.

Perhaps.

The big thing with the new Viper is that they finnaly went and worried about upper RPM power in stock form. The thing has one of the coolest VVT cam-in-block systems ever. Its almost like two cams in one, with independently rotating cams inside each other. Which is the big reason the thing gets more HP. All HP is, is high RPM TQ. The reason the old Viper would loose to a C6Z without at least decent bolt-ons was that it had all this TQ that just petered out in the upper revs versus the Z which can wind gears out to redline really effectively. Thats the real reason C6Zs are so fast. Mid 400WHP small blocks have been around for a long damn time. Mid 400s WHP small blocks that have that broad a powerband in the uper revs are something new and prettty freakin cool. Same thing for the Viper now. Looking forward to some awesome battles. Till the ZR1 comes along at least.:devil:

He sounds like a nice guy to have a few runs with. Taking driving lessons together after racing, thats pretty cool if you ask me. Great sportsmanship. Nice runs. Great story.

Thanks! These cars are not the easiest to drive I must admit. How many miles have you put on yours? I'm at 9000.

You guys should all get together and post some vids. It would be cool to see all 3 run together with average joe drivers at the wheel.

Except that if they do that they had better be ready with some serious rubber and suspension. Lots of newbie rich people will be killing themselfs with say a set 3.73s. That much TQ off idle is a big deal. Traction controll is kinda anathema to the Viper philosophy, which I find cool. On the other hand it does explain the 3.07s. I think a 3.23 would be pretty good, or like you said a 3.42. Maybe an option for them:devil:

I'm not saying that the Z can beat the Viper I'm just saying if both had a passenger the race will be diffrent thats it

I know the Vette had headers and tune and the Viper is bone stock but Viper have 60rwhp more and less weight in that vid :D:D

Im gonna get my third Viper in not to long..It will eighter be a stock 2006 coupe...Supercharged 2004 vert or a stock 2008 Viper if I can swing it...Until then Im just driving a 350 rwhp NSX ( supercharged) so Ill keep my fuckin mouth shut and no my role..

1998 Fbody...13.5 at 105 average
1997 Vette...13.4 at 107 average
2003 Cobra...12.9 at 111 average
2002 C5Z06...12.6 at 114 average
1996 Viper...12.3 at 117 average
2003 Viper...12.1 at 119 average
2006 C6Z06...11.9 at 122 average
2008 Viper...11.7 at 124 average

Yea they can all go a hell of a lot faster by the best of the best at the fastest tracks...But these are good representations of what an average guy can do in average conditions..

Yea the 08 Viper is a little faster than the C6Z06....But Vipers are VERY hard to launch with all the tourque...Even my stock 99 Viper dynoed 465 rwt..So the Viper can defiently get caught by the C6Z06

I have been learning recently that the 08 Viper is a driver's race or maybe even a tick slower than a Z06. Everyone read this...

Some time ago there was a video posted of a stock 08 Viper vs. a stock Z06 on the Vet forums and the Z06 pulled about a car or so. Here is the video:

After this race, there was much contraversy from the 08 Viper boys, stating that there is now way, no how this can happen. So, one of the guys on there with an 08 Viper called out a C6 Z06. Lucky for him, there was an owner with a Z06 in the area that accepted the challenge. After 12 pages of bickering back and forth, they finally went out and raced this week. GUESS WHAT??? THE Z06 WON AGAIN AND THE VIPER OWNER COULD NOT BELIEVE IT!!! The Z06 had a cai/tune (470 rwhp), and the Viper had muffler delete (~ 530 rwhp)

They posted the results and video on the CF a few days ago but it got deleted because street racing is not allowed on there. I HAVE ASKED THE Z06 OWNER TO SEND ME THE VIDEO again VIA PM. ONCE HE DOES, I WILL POST IT FOR YOUR VIEWING PLEASURES!!!!

The driver of THAT Z06 chimed in that deleted thread that I was taking about, and he said that after the races he went to the shop and had the car checked and had spark plugs melted along with some other issues with the car. Him and the Viper (in the video you posed) are friends.

Where in the bay area did you run your cars to 150ish. I need a good spot like that to open up my car, or did you guys just throw caution to the wind?

Hey man sorry to burst your bubble...But when my SRT10 Viper was 475 rwhp and my buddies C6Z06 was 455 rwhp I was able to beat him 2 outta 3 times, and yes their were videos made......The point is that it's all driver dependent....When your talking about 400 PLUS rwhp cars the driver is everything


I ccan show you videos of modded C6Z06's getting pulled by stock 08 Vipers...I can show you links were the 2003 stle SRT10 was faster than the C6Z06 vette in head to head test....

Their are so many factors when it comes to street racing....But one thing you CAN be sure of is this...If you read TEN differant reviews and each review says the 2008 Viper is 1-3 tenths and 1-3 mph faster than the C6Z06 in head to head testing, then you can be sure that the 08 Viper is a lil faster... Everything else is just ACHOTS unless it's your car/money/respect on the line

Anyway me and this guy are still friends, and he beats me from a roll now by 1 1/2 cars everytime. We're still both stock. But I can beat him on a road course everytime. And I beat him from a dig too! That damn Viper is hard to launch with all that Torque!!

Ok, so now after the Viper owner has learned to drive his car, he beats you by 1.5 cars. Sounds ligit. Also confirms that a intake/tuned Z06 will run even with or beat a stock 08 Viper, just like the story I told in my #40 post.

RSKY, did Killemall EVER beat you from a roll with his 475 rwhp, where driver skill is NOT involved and only the faster car is taken into consideration???

He hasn't beaten me from a roll. Even in that vid I posted a long time ago, I started half a car behind and ended up pulling out ahead at about 155 mph.
