Automatic Transmission - Going from SY3500 to TCS4200 what kind of gains?

My car is pretty stock, 98 Z28 with a 2.73 gear, MAC headers, true duals, no cats, K&N FIPK, No front sway bar, ET streets on 15x10 Warriors, 15x3 1/2 skinnies with metrics. Best time which kinnda sucks is a 8.38 @85mph, with a crappy 1.93 60'. It was also 101 degrees, here in North Texas. Anyway, I just ordered a TCS 4200 with a 2.75 str, what kind of gains do you all think Ill get with this new converter? Im not real impressed with this SY3500! It is obvious I have much to gain in my 60' alone, not to mention it was pretty hot out. Thanks for the help!

I ordered the same converter, I have 3.73 gears and an ST3500. I spoke to Derek at TCS he said I could expect about 3 tenths improvement over my current setup. That 4200 is going to be very loose with your 2.73s, you might want to consider upgrading your gearing. Or better yet call Derek and talk to him about how tight or how loose you want your converter to be.

Probably 3 tenths over where you should have been and .5 over what you did.

The SY 3500 was designed for street racing and low traction situations. Using ET streets on 2.73 bolt-on car probably hurt your ET with that converter. Nittos at 24lbs probably would have done better. Your 1.93 was about .15 higher than what I would have expected in reasonable weather and with lower rolling resistance tires.

The good news is your TCS should rock the house with your gears and tires. Make sure you have a 24k cooler for your set-up and maybe a trans pan.

I agree with Ragtop... I think you should up your gears. I've been there done that w/2.73s my car was starving for gear!

With 2.73s he can have a great highway cruiser and still be pretty fast. My main concern was heat, not performance. I'd love to see what he runs with the 2.73s. That big converter can pull the car through 1st gear. If he's running 1/8th mile he won't need a 2-3 shift.

Yes, Gears will make it a little faster, but take it to the track before switching gears. :cool:

Yeah, I hear ya... When I had my 2.73s in the car my other mods were air lid, pro torque 2800 stall vert, SLP Loudmouth and I was running on Nittos. (8,100 miles on the car) best I ran w/that set up was a 12.41@108.

Yeah, I'm sure it will get pretty hot...I would get a tranny coolier for sure.
