Widest tire for 18X8.5 rim?

Widest tire for 18X8.5 rim? Considering a set of 18X8.5 ADR M Sport wheels, only because the 8.5 is the correct size for our bolt pattern. I've read that the 18X9.5 (5X120) will work but most dont recommend it. What is the biggest tire you can fit on the 18X8.5, and how bad would it look. The factory WS6 wheel is 17X9 right? How much difference would there be considering there's only a half inch difference???
