Default 95 Z28 Engine Misfire

I have a 95 Z28 that seems to be having a terrible misfire. It happens horribly when the car warms up. It's smooth till you try to floor it from about 40 mph then it stumbles and shakes until you let off the gas. Sometimes it will keep stumbling after you let up. Also, it has a horrible backfire. My mechanic seems to think there is a performance cam in it, (I am unsure of the history on the car, but it runs rich too). I think it might need tuning, I just wanted to get some opinions from some of you guys before I do.

check engine light flashing? theres a number of things it could be, clogged air filter, clogged cat, plug wires, plugs, or even optispark, to bad coil. check them before doing a tune.

Well, something I fogot to mention in the initial post was: Optispark has been replaced, plugs and wires replaced as well. I also have no engine light either.

Are you plug wires arcing on anything at all? Like exhaust mani/headers(depending on what you have) or maybe a heat sheild? Make sure all plug wires are tight and away from those sorts of things. Start it up and look under the hood at the wires and see if you see any flashing/spark.

really does not matter if the parts were just replaced it's an electrical componet and it can go bad at any time!
i vote for WIRES cause they are cheaper to replace....easier to inspect too.

I thought plug wires as well (searched the forums) but they look good, and I don't have any arcing or sparking...

Horrible backfire may be from a timing issue. But do remember Most LT1's are prone to backfiring, its just a thing they do. Mine never did it, i would say maybe 50% do. Im sure others will chime in on that.

Mine acted like this with a bad O2 sensor, but it also threw an O2 sensor code, so it may be worth checking! The thing that sounds exactly like mine is it ran ok until you tried to give it some gas, then it would sputter and try to die.
