Default Who's running 5.3L Heads with a TR220?

Just doing some reading up and have read some good stuff on the 5.3L Stage II heads...I haven't ran across anyone that has these heads with the TR 220...this is what I have and was wondering what has this combo put out? What would be the "ideal" cam for these heads...thanks.

That will give you a nice sleeper combo that should easily pass emissions and not need to rev real high. Good package for an A4 with a mild converter.

Most people with heads go a little larger and use the TR224 cam.

I have TEA Stage 1.5 / 5.3L heads (unmilled), TR220 cam, and FLP headers with cats.

This combo with an A4 tranny should put out about 400 rwhp tuned properly with Edit.

I dyno'd 388 though a full exhaust (cats and no cutout) with the Yank 2,800 converter unlocked. My air/fuel ratio was 12.4 to 1 on the wideband. I should see another 10 or 12 rwhp if I get it tuned to 13.0 to 1

While I was short 12 rwhp of the 400 goal, I see no problem getting 400 out of it with the proper fuel/air mix. Locking the converter will certainly put it a couple of ponies above 400.

With a M6 tranny, you should see better than 410 rwhp on the Dynojet through a full exhaust (cats and no cutout). Not bad for a mild mannered 220 duration cam.

The TR220 cam makes for a very nice daily driver with excellant throttle response and lots of low-end grunt....

BTW, this car made 285 rwhp when bone stock. I think an increase of over 100 rwhp was pretty good considering the drivability is just as good as what it was when stock and fuel mileage on the highway has remained about the same. I could do better with a bigger cam, but for this "everyday go to work car", i'm happy.

Ron,
(combo is shown below)

It ran a 12.20 @ 113 on BFG Drag Radials.

The car is shifting at 6,000 rpm. The engine makes it's best power at 6,200 revs. So, if I can Edit the shifts up to about 6,300 revs, the car should run maybe a 11.95 to 12 flat through full exhaust.

This is a very [heavy] TA, so I am happy with the times. The car really needs to loose a couple hundred pounds, but I am not willing to remove anything. I don't even take out the spare tire.

The car has one of the first coverters that Yank made for the LS1 cars (early 98). I guess one of the newer converters would be more effecient and yield better times.

BTW, it has 3.23 gears.

Other than making some PCM changes to it, I am done with mods.

IF I ever get back into racing again, i'm going back with a Turbo Buick GN.

I have the TR220 with a set of patriot stage II 5.3's. the numbers in the sig are on stock programming, no cutout, no underdrive pulley, and the stock throttle body. I'm well pleased with the combo.

Call Mark at Raging Motorsports---------------->>>
He is getting some awesome numbers with his stage 2 5.3L heads and small cams like yours. He is consistantly hitting 415ish on A4 setups.
Good Luck.

Tin indian, sorry to break the news to you, but your dreaming if you think your going to get 10-12 hp from 12.4 to 13.0 a/f, its more like 1-2, you will get 4-6 hp from locking the small yank, take the cats off
doesnt raging sell gtp heads
maybe its me but every one that posts with tea heads claim there car is down 15-20 hp, and from other posts on other boards they say there flow bench is like 20 high compared to a standard superflow, i will be shopping for a set of heads and a mild cam like the 220 but I dont like what I see and hear from tea, maybe if raging has a good deal on gtp's ill look into them
