ls2 in 2002 trans am
i was wondering if a gto ls2 would fit in place of my ls1 in my 02 ta and how would i know by looking at the motor if it was a ls2 from a gto i was wondering if it was a good power upgrade or not worth the change over and hassle would everything bolt up or would i have to change a bunch of stuff

Look for the 243 heads and you will have to ditch the DBW stuff to use your harness/PCM. It would be an easy swap and if I were you I'd use your existing valley cover with the knock sensors and your ls6 intake TB.....

You can try, but I bet you won't find a 58 tooth GTO motor. That was a internet myth that I have yet to prove true. The problem is that the E40 ecm in the GTO does not work with the 58 tooth motors. All GTO's have the E40, not the E38 or E67 that you would need for a 58 tooth motor.

Correct, all GTO LS2's, both 05 and 06, are 24 tooth.
58 tooth engines started with the '06 Vette, and that is it in '06. After that, they pretty much all started converting over to 58 tooth in '07, and the GTO wasn't around anymore.
