Default i have a 2.73 gear...goin to a 3.73...what series?

i have a 98 z28 A4 with the stock 2.73 gear, what series gear do i need? is it a 2 series? i'm getting ready to order the gear, is the JEGS brand any good? any of you guys running the jegs gear? i have a local race shop that is doing the install for $200, they have done it for me before in a s-10 and i had no problems, not too bad for labor i think

Ive got the same prob. as you, im gettin ready to put in 3.42's, and my car came with 2.73's im just going to buy the ring gear spacer when i do my install. But since you have the series 2 carrier you can buy the thick gears if you dont want to run a spacer. I know motive sells them and i think there may be some other companys that have them too. hope this helps

richmond is the only one i see in a 3.73 for a 2 series carrier, does this mean that it is the thick gear or do i have to ask for the thick gear when ordering? so if i order the richmond 3.73 for a 2 series carrier it will work in my car with no ring gear spacer?

I went from 2.73 to 3.73. You need gears made for a 2series carriers. Those are the "thick" gears.

I got mine through SpeedInc. Motive 3.73's haven't had any issues at all. Not any louder than stock too. Part # MOT75373X Motive Performance Gear Set 3.73 (2 Series Carrier)

If you get those you won't need the spacer. The spacer is only used when trying to use 3 series gears in a 2 series.

ive ran the richmond 2 series gears, 3.73 and 4.10's properly set up both were quiet as could be. tho i killed the pinion on the 3.73's and replaced it with jeg's brand, i now have motive gears(in 3series) and have held up great to a M6 with DR's and good clutch. cant say the same for the posi's tho.lol

I think its more in the way they are set up when installed than actual gear company. When I say mine are quiet I mean they aren't loud enough to make me notice them over LT's ory and loudmouth fwiw
