A little over a month ago I sent my T56 to Joey at Tick Performance and had them service their Level 2 Rebuild on my trans. I finally got everything re-installed the other day and I'm happy to report that everything works wonderfully.
My concerns with shipping a transmission are probably pretty obvious; cost, as well as the possibility of it being damaged en route. However, with the pre-paid shipping label Joey sent me the shipping price was *well* under what I thought it would be (~$220 round trip via DHL from MI to NC; UPS wanted almost double that one-way!), and the included instructions for how to package the transmission for shipping made it both cost-effective as well as provided peace-of-mind knowing that even in the hands of DHL it would be safe. ;) It took just over a week from the moment I dropped it off at DHL for it to be back at my house, which is not bad at all in my book.
I haven't even come close to hitting the break-in period for the clutch/trans yet, but prior to the rebuild my trans had developed nasty 3rd and 4th gear grinds prior to the car being warmed up. Those are non-existent now, and every gear engages very smoothly. Customer service was excellent; I can't remember how many emails I've sent to Joey over the last month, and he always responded quickly. I couldn't be happier with their work, and would recommend them to anyone interested in a trans rebuild.
