NEW PRODUCT KICK OFF!!!!
GP Pricing ended in April but I had alot of posts asking about these. Last page was the response. I do have these in stock again!!
Trans Am guys with blown sailpanel speakers listen up!!! I have DVC replacement subwoofer for your Monsoon sail panels that are made by Bazooka. These are a quality 6.75" subwoofer with dual 4ohm voice coils just like your stock one. These feature 100watts RMS power handling and 200watts peak power and 100db sensitivity so they will work well with the Monsoons power.
****Please note these DO require a 1/2 spacer just like the Elemental Designs subwoofer. Wiring is just like stock on the Trans Am/Firebird factory Monsoon system. I do carry a SVC 4ohm version as well for the Camaro.
These are available....in stock...for $119.00 for a pair shipped inside the continental U.S.

How do these sound in a stock system? Has anybody tried them yet? I am very interested depending on feedback.

These are the same subwoofers that are in the Bazooka tubes and are quite reliable wiht great bass response. I have not had the opportunity to try them as my car has 8" subs in the sails. Otherwise I would have put them in already.

Do these need the hole drilled behind them like the Elemental Designs do?

KEE AUDIO
03-07-2008, 08:15 AM
I compared these to a stock sub and the only mod that needs to be made to fit in the stock location is the 1/2" spacer. I will post some pics so you can see what I'm talking about. I actually am trying to find a 6.75" x 1/2" spacer that is prefabricated. I may have found one but haven't gotten it in yet to see if it is what I was looking for. If it works like I think it will I will be contacting the manufacturer for a larger order so I can put together a package for you guy that has the spacer!!

Hi Matt,
The only reason I carry these is for the stock Monsoon in the Firebird/TransAm. The stock Monsoon in the Firebird/TransAm has dual voice coil subs in the sail panels that produce bass only dictated by the stock Monsoon amplifier. Only 2 companies produce a dual voice coil subwoofer in a 6.5" size. Elemental designs and this one. Elemental designs were back ordered and I was digging to find a good alternative. I was able to come up with these.

porksoda
03-07-2008, 11:46 AM
So no hole is needed behind the speaker? I just ask because i have seen people put like a 1" hole behind their ED sub so that the air can move freely.

As soon as i hear some reviews from someone on here, i'll def take a pair shipped to 38680.

Maybe you guys could give someone unbiased a pair for evaluation. On that note, I feel that i am the most qualified person for that task.

vader99
03-08-2008, 01:01 AM
I am very interested in these if the reviews sound promising and these subs turn out to be just as loud or louder than the stock ones with cleaner bass :D

Are these subs infinite baffle or do we need to fully enclose our sail panel locations??? I believe the elemental designs are infinite baffle and that is why you need the hole with those. Correct me if I am wrong.

From my website and from the manufacturer:
Bazooka 6.5" subwoofer
6.5" replacement subwoofer
100watts RMS/200watts Peak Power
available in single or dual 4ohm 1.5" voice coils
100dB Sensitivity

I hope I didn't come off as an ass. i was just curious because I've seen some people put the hole behind the ED subs but I thought it was for sound quality not just for making it fit. So why do people put the holes behind the speaker than? As you can tell I'm a total audio noob and I just want this for my own info.

anybody compared these to the ed's?

KEE AUDIO
03-09-2008, 05:56 AM
Your all right Pork....didn't take it like that!
I believe the reason for the hole is because the eD has a vented pole piece in the magnet.
Here is an install guide by Mr. Fred for the eD sub:

All right guys I have a couple of players! For those guys I have also included a pair of 1/2" spacers. I want to see if the spacers will work with these so I threw them in. I did do a comparison of the mounting depth with spacers vs. a pair of CDT CL-6's that fit in the stock sail panel area. They look to be a perfect fit. We will see.
As far as number of orders made the group buy is a go so these will be available for $99.00 shipped to the continental U.S. Anyone wanting these just Paypal me with your screen name and item.
I have sent out 1 pair and am sending out 2 more pairs today. So a few reviews will be forthcoming.
I did get one order from someone that didn't have an address available on Paypal and no LS1Tech screenname so if you know who you are PM me please!

Elemental Designs does not include a spacer for their subs and they are actually more money (nice product as well not taking anything away). I don't get spacers for free and I always give the best deals I can possibly give. The spacers are available for $7.00. This covers what I buy them for.
As much as I would love to keep giving stuff away....I think $7.00 is reasonable.
I included the spacers to the first couple because they were willing to try them out and give a review. I'm guessing that the spacers were the right depth. They looked to be right on when I put them side by side with another speaker in front of me but only the installation will tell.
Currently I have am sold out but have a new shipment of 20 coming in no later than Friday.

One of my sail panel subs is blown. I've replaced the passenger side already and then a few months later the other one blew. And I don't play my system loud. That is why I'm looking for an alternative sub for my Monsoon system. I would be interested in the subs with the spacers as well. Only thing is, I don't have a paypal account so I would probably need to contact you directly at Kee Audio. I live outside of Nashville, so Marietta is not that far from me.

What is the top mount depth and cut out diameter dimensions for the bazooka you say fits directly in with no hassle?

I took the panel off yesterday to check out the wiring. It seems that there is a plus that goes to the speaker. They are colored red and black. So, I'll probably just end up cutting the wire right where the wire is soldered to the speaker.

I used some sound dampening material from elemental design. It's $2 per square foot. It helped a lot but the one thing that still rattles is the plastic guard over the speaker...I'm thinking I'll have to hot clue it on or something, lol.

KEE AUDIO
04-05-2008, 03:28 AM
I would recommend sound deadener around most speakers. $2.00 a sq. ft. is a good deal. I have the DYnamat extreme speaker kits but they are way more than that.

I also bought a pair of these Bazooka subs with spacers from Kee. They are very nice for the price (at $50 each), and relatively easy to install. They dont fit perfect, but they do fit well enough to mount in the stock location. I just cut the wires off the stock subs and soldered them onto the bazooka subs. So this way the new bazooka subs plug in just like factory. The only downside is that they rattle the plastic grille covers pretty bad. Im thinking about just taking the covers out, or finding a better way to secure them.

So overall these bazooka subs sound good and make a LOT more bass than the stock ones. I'll see how they hold up to the test of time and I'll report back.

I got mine installed today. The speakers sound great (I'd give them an 8.8 out of 10). They have a nice clean punch compared to the originals. I installed sound matting which also gets rid of some of the normal road noise as well. :D

When installing the speakers make sure to bore & slot out the holes on the plastic spacer as they don't match the speaker mounting holes too well.

Do they make more bass at all volume levels or only when you turn them up to the high levels? Is there less bass at the lower volume levels compared to the stock ones?

I would recommend sound deadener around most speakers. $2.00 a sq. ft. is a good deal. I have the DYnamat extreme speaker kits but they are way more than that.

Sorry for the stupid question but I new to car audio... I have to remove the trim to put in Dynamat right?

Removal of the trim is necessary for good coverage on the sound deadener but it isn't hard to do.

Yes they do. They are pretty sensitive, so they do sound good even at low volume levels. They are a good replacement for a stock TA system with stock amp.

Mine did the same thing.

The spacers are not needed, I drilled my own holes and just used 1.5' screws to secure the speakers to the metal.

Wow!! OK then. I thought with that amount of mounting depth they would require the spacers. I even measured a set of CL-6's that didn't need the spacers for fitment and they were a good inch or so deeper than those so I wanted to make sure there were no depth issues. If I had known this I wouldn't have cut open every box with the exeception of one who already had made some spacers. I had to open 24 boxes...lol!!!
Guys I thank you for the info!!!
SO everyone know by the way.....I had to end the group buy on these as of Monday. I actually was supposed to end it the 1st of the month but extended it another week (all last week).
I am out of stock again and have another order coming in about a week or so depending on SAS Bazooka's production. I did order 20 pairs...40 total...this time to try and keep up with the orders. Regular price is still reasonable on them at $119.00. I'll post when the new order arrives. Also check the car stereo forum as I do have some other new products becoming available from Alpine, CDT, and Planet Audio. Thanks again!!

Mine arrived today. Putting them in immediately!

edit:
...
I drilled my own holes and just used 1.5' screws to secure the speakers to the metal.

Best idea ever.

The dang screws that held the old speakers in will dig into the speaker surround because of the built-in washers.

Did you use a rubber washer or anything to pad the speaker surround from the new screws? This is the first speaker I've ever installed that has a surround that you bolt through.

The old screws will dig it, I tried using them and noticed that so I drilled my own holes. I did not use anything to pad the speaker surround. It already has some padding with holes pre-drilled through it. I did you sound deadner around the speaker though, but as far as install, I just predrilled holes in the metal, using the speaker holes as guides, and then screwed the speaker to the metal. Hope this helps!

Got mine installed.
I did what Greenbird97 did. Put the speaker in place, drill a tiny hole in the sheetmetal through the speaker hole. I used 6x1" screws. I only used 3 screws to hold each speaker in.

Sounds much better now - but then again one speaker was blown so bad that I had to turn the left 2 EQ bands all the way down. These speakers can do MUCH more than what the stock Monsoon system can push.

Would I do it again? Yup.

Thanks Kee-man!

My pleasure guys. I searched for awhile to find a suitable 6.5" subwoofer with dual voice coils at a good price level.
I will have some new stealth enclosures available soon. I am working with my new distributer and Probox to come up with a new one. We will see how it works out. I just don't have the time right now to fabricate them so I'm having to come up with another game plan. I just wanted to make sure it was a quality product.
I'll be revamping my site soon as well as CDT has released some new products that I will be trying out as soon as I can find the time to pull my car apart again. When I do I will post up.

Dumb question. Just thought i would ask, as soon as i do it the way i think it should be done, i find out otherwise.

The bazooka has 2 places to hook up wires and my harness has 2 pairs of wires. Do i just hook up the the positives and negatives indiscrimantly to either side of the speaker? It looks like both terminals of the speaker attach to the same part of the speaker.
Just trying to do it by the book. Clarification needed!

Hi guys,
I just saw this so I figured I might want to say something. I did post up on 6/30/08 when I was able to get them in stock again and have been posting in the stereo forum about them. Here's the post:
http://ls1tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=945013&highlight=bazooka
The GP pricing had ended 4/08/08 and I had posted that in post #122, it reads
"SO everyone know by the way.....I had to end the group buy on these as of Monday. I actually was supposed to end it the 1st of the month but extended it another week (all last week)".
This actually ended up being extended even further.
That with the fact that I ran out of them and couldn't get SAS Bazooka to give me a tentative date as to when I could receive my newest order was why I hadn't posted anymore here but I had posted in the stereo forum a few times regarding these in addition to the 50-100 PM's I had sent out to people inquiring about them.
Regarding spacers, some cars seem to need them and some don't. Typical GM when it comes to quality control and fit/finish. Depends on which guy built your car that day it seems. I have had some guys report no need for spacers and some need a 1/4" to 1/2" depending on the car. I have them if you need them.
I also found this write up on the install for them:
http://ls1tech.com/forums/showthread.php?p=9488460
Again, sorry I hadn't posted here in awhile but I thought with the GP pricing overwith I shouldn't bring it to the top of the page because then people would be expecting $99.00 for them.
The single voice coil versions of these are less expensive then the DVC versions as well. The DVC versions are also harder to get. I currently have 30 in stock right now and the "buy now" button is for the $119.00/pair and does include shipping.
Thanks,
-Ian

gp pricing ended in april but i had alot of posts asking about these.
