Default Dyno'd the new motor for the first time on Friday...

Just got new motor dyno'd for the first time....

Futral Motorsports Forged Internal 346ci Shortblock
Thunder Racing 231/224-111
GTP 5.3 Stage 2 Heads
Thunder Racing Headers 1-3/4"
3" True Dual X-pipe /w 12" Bullet Mufflers
TH400 Yank SS4000E Conveter
1300 HP Steel Drive Shaft
Moser 12 Bolt w/3.73
Nitto DR 275-40-17

First pull on the Dyno was:

393.8 RWHP 409.1 RWTQ

A/F = 11.5
Timing = 27*
Air Temp = 100*

To say the least I was actually very pleased to pull 393 RWHP and 409 RWTQ through a TH400, Steel Drive shaft and 12 Bolt.

I began tuning the A/F and Timing. I was able to get my timing to 29* and leaned the A/F to 12.8.

My final Dyno Pull was:

404.7 RWHP 445.2 RWTQ

A/F = 12.8
Timing = 29*
Air Temp = 100*

I couldn't believe the ammount of torque the motor is putting down. I had 445.2 RWTQ peak @ 3000 RPM. car kept pulling all way to 7200 RPM and the HP graph was still climbing up, it never leveled off or curved back down. My HP and TQ lines cross each other at 5200 RPM line.

All of the pulls were with my hood closed. They had a fan blowing air at the from of the car, but I have the K&N FIPK and the radiator shroud blocks air from the bottom. Also my VFN hood is not functional. I need to find a way to scoop some cold air into my intake. It was hot as hell Friday too, the Dyno registered 100* Air temp.

I'll post the dyno graph as soon as I find someone here at work here that has a scanner.

Anyway that same evening I drove over the track for test and tune. I ran 11.60's with 1.8 60' I was like WTF 1.8 60' !! I tried trans brake and foot brake launches, it didn't matter. I could feel a little spinning off the line but the car was moving. After a few runs when I was in the pits the staging guy came over and told me I was spinning my wheels (Bogarts) inside of my MT ET Streets!! I was like AHH NO FRICKEN WONDER!! I tried to increase the psi in the tires, it helped with the spinning some but I was still in the 1.8 60's. The temp at the track Friday night was in the high 80's almost 90 degrees. It was hot and humid, I have no idea what the DA was.

My car weighed in right at 3300 lbs on the nose. I weight about 200 myself, so my raceweight was 3500 lbs.

I'd really love to see the car hit 10.99 on motor. I think with some slicks instead of ET Street and some good weather, plus a shave a little more weight off the car I can do it!

I'm just so happy to have the car back on the road and at the track, my old motor commited suicide on Valentines Day. The car has been down for a while.

Oh yea, I forgot to ask.. Can anyone estimate how much RWHP and RWTQ is being robbed by my drive train?

If I knew your MPH I could. Or you could plug your weight and MPH into the standard formula hp = ((mph / 234) ^ 3) * weight and subtract your measured hp from that. Not exact, but a resaonable approximation.

Here is a scan of my dyno sheet. You can see the HP and TQ difference from 12.0 to 12.8 Air Fuel from the first two to the last dyno pull.

Critter, thanks for the formula. I was trapping 119 MPH in the 1/4 on Friday. So ((119 / 234)^3)*3500) = 460.19 ? Is that right?

your torque numbers are a converter spike, if you lock the converter the torque numbers will go down good thig is the hp numbers will go up about 6-7 hp. air fuel looks good on the 404 hp run, leave it there, does your 02 camaro have an ls6 block

My transmission is a JW TH400 3 speed, I don't have any way to lock the converter.

I had the car on the dyno for an hour and a half messing with different tuning setups, till I finally pulled the 404/445.

My block is a rebuilt LS1 from Futral Motorsports, ARP bolts, Diamons Pistons, Race Bearings etc. The engine rev's alot faster than my old motor. I had to lower my shift light setting a few hundred rpm to give me a little more reaction to the light. The rpm needle just screams right up to 7000+ without looking back.

I wanna get some in car track video someday, need to find a way to mount a camera to the rollbar.

=)

I saw a car go from 450rwhp to 380rwhp going from a 6 speed to a TH400 so its hard to tell.

I would be happy with your numbers.

Yep. 460 at the flywheel and 404 at the rear wheels means you are losing about 56 HP in the drivetrain. Again, this is only approximate, but that formula is the generally accepted one for computing FWHP from MPH. MPH is a pretty fair indicator of HP, while et is an indicator for traction.

Thinking about it, 119 MPH at 3500 is not at all shabby. And, a drivetrain loss of ~60 HP seems in the ball park. So it makes you wonder about the cars that dyno at 430 and run 114, doesn't it?
