rotor touching cap, help quick!!!

is the metal piece (thin piece that receives the spark from the middle of the cap) on the rotor supposed to come in contact with the middle (small button like object in the middle of the cap) of the cap?

i dont know why i asked this question. for some reason i just became unsure. while putting the opti together i just went blank. i guess im tired. anyways, thanks for your help.
