Posted in the General forum as well. Car is 01 WS6 stock except for lid. Car is throwing po305 (misfire) and po430 (cats/I think). Help with diagnosing the issue?? Tune-up and replace plugs and wires? Someone direct me in the proper direction!!

PO305 = cyl 5 misfire detected - bad plug/wire
PO430 = bank 2 sensor 2 catalyst efficiency below threshold - bad cat/rear o2 sensor

That is right. And there is a Sticky at the top of this section that tells all about the codes. I would pay attention to the misfire code first and change the plugs and wires. The misfire may very well be causing the second code too. Once the engine is running on all cylinders the emissions code may go away.

Possible for a loose gas cap to cause this? And why does the SES light flash on and off-then go off for awhile-then come on for awhile, etc.?

You can get an EVAP code for a loose gas cap. Cars differ but my '01 had a cronic problem with it. That's why I bought a scan tool at first, just to clear the light when some jackass didn't put the cap on right. (can't pump my own gas in this state, but that's a different thread)

But aside from the light the car continues to run just fine, it won't make it miss or loose power or anything.

A flashing SES light indicates a serious engine mis-fire. You have a problem in #5 cyclinder. Like stated above.
