Actually, I'd check the wires first. If you'll notice, when under the car, the wires are very well exposed to heat from the headers. I just had the same problem today, and it turned out to be a broken cable from being so dry due to the heat.

that light indicates pressure, not volume. though the 2 are related.. it's possible to have the thing be full, and still bad pressure.
i would certainly test the sender... but until you do, i would be cautious.

see the pressure gauge is fine - just like before the light came on. I pay a lot of attention to stuff like that and this engine hasn't even been leaking the slightest amount of oil. The plugs stay in relatively good shape and it's noisy, but it runs well. Anybody know exactly how this sensor works?

"The GM oil level sensor is a marvel of modern engineering, consisting of a piece of cork floating on the end of a piece of plastic. If the oil level in the pan falls below the sensor, the cork won't float and the ECU will be notified. Simple, yet effective! Reinstall this sensor now, and put in the oil drain plug while you're at it. The bottom end is now all buttoned up--it's time to move up top!" GM hightech performance.
Basically its just a float.
