Street Racing & Kill Stories - 07 GT vs 00 SS

So I was wrapping things up at work, when one of the guys I worked with mentioned he had an 07 GT stang, and wondered who drove the Silver SS. I owned up, and he proceeded to tell me about all the SS's he smoked in his 350Z, and that his GT shouldn't have a problem either. I let him talk his car up all the way to the parking lot...when he noticed my exhaust setup wasn't stock. I let him in on the fact I had the LT's and TD's, and he let me know he had exhaust, so I guess he still felt he was going to be ok. So we both get on the the freeway, and get up to about 70 before we start. Dropped it to third and he stayed with me as I wrapped 3rd out, and then came 4th. At this point I began to steadily pull away until I had him by about a car and a half (around 120) and let out. Good run I guess, hadn't run one of the new GT's yet, so compared to older GT's it did well. Anyway, nothing spectacular, just another Mustang kill.:chug:
Pretty good. I have yet to run one either. Sounds like it can be kinda close.

they give alot better run than an old one. thats for sure. when i just had exhaust, cai, and a tune i was about dead even with a buddy of mine with his exhaust only ss about 50 times lol, so it takes a couple small mods and the 3v stangs are a decent run

Geez, both of you guys driving big turbo civic's?
From a roll like that, you kinda take torque out of the equation and leave it all up to horsepower.

all he had was a catback? was he A5 or M5? i pulled 5 lengths on a stock auto 07 gt before 120. you should of beat him worse then that.

Or maybe he just raced a good driver ;)

They did a 70 roll....:emb:
If op raced from 2nd or 1st gear, it would have been real nasty for the GT.

GTs do better at lower speeds compared to LS1s.

correct but the gt is also geared slightly better than a ls1, which is why it would stay close off the hit, but in just that 40-50mph burst it was already a 2 car lead, from a 1st or 2nd gear roll it woulda been 4-5 cars im pretty confident

Yes... in that 40-45mph range where the LS1 has a bigger advantage over the SOHC 4.6...

Not sure on the A5 or M5, pretty sure it was M5. All he said he had was catback, but then again, he could have had other stuff, and not said anything (I don't always disclose all my mods). The reason for 70 roll, is he got ahead of me on the way home, and I caught up to him rolling 70. Not like I particularly liked starting at that speed, as I would have much rather preferred a 45-50 roll, and drop to 2nd, but you play with the hand you are dealt, and it came out a win anyway.

good driver, the car i raced was auto. no driver error there, all car. i did the same race at the same speed and pulled harder in my lt1, thats why im sayin he should of won by more. unless the autos are complete turds compared to the manuals.

good kill to the op, eitherway.

Well, just look at the hp difference between M6 and A4 F-bodys stock, so i would expect that a M5 should afford the Mustangs better performance than the A5. Also that speed was not a good starting point, like someone said earlier, from 1st or 2nd it would have been bad, since I took an LS1 firebird from a dig, and even with the jump he got, I realed him back in, and put 2 cars on him by 80mph, so maybe the lack of torque involved in the race afforded the stang a smaller margin of loss than it would from lower speeds. Doesn't really matter, "doesn't matter if its by an inch or a mile, winning is winning" lol, and the guy looked pissed when he came in today:D.

Hardly comparable to the difference between A5/M5 Mustangs...

Correct. The A5 in the S197s is a damn good transmission. Ford finally did something decent with an auto.

I wouldn't know, since I don't own one, nor have I looked at a comparison between base dyno numbers on the two.
