Default Backfiring bad with open y pipe?

Drove my 95 lt1 t/a for the first time today in 2+ years and everything was fine except it backfired almost every time it went about 3k rpm when accelerating and the engine vibrated very bad. Any sugestions? Also had a S.E.S light on. My coil wire is a lil loose....

Well the loose coil wire would deff have some play in that, seeing as how it provides spark to the opti, which provides the spark to the entire engine. I would replace that asap. But if that doesn't fix it and the s.e.s. light doesn't turn off, then get it checked for codes. It could be bad gas as well.

Low back pressure would be my initial guess but the rest, you posted about a coil already and I told you a quick fix heh Dont know what you did with that thread.

When I cut the cat off my first Suburban, it was open Y and I was driving through towns to a shop lol I didn't drive fast because it was LLLOUD, but it backfired a few times, motor was a champ, nothing wrong.

I squeezed the coil wire like you said with no luck. The coil wire I used to have looks totally differnt inside than the autozone one I just installed. I cranked it up and I beleive the vibrations are gone but it definatly backfires when reving to 3k...everytime. I hope this is a combo of bad gas (60old/40new Mix) and the open y pipe. Gonne drive it to the exhaust shop like this tommorrow and let them weld on the exhaust.

I would guess the old gas might have fouled out your plugs too Pull the easy ones from each side and look. That and still the old gas doesn't help.

I hope they are not fouled out. Gonna add 3.5 more gallons and see if it still backfires alot if not then gonna drive it to the exhaust shop. There is one sensor that is not plugged in right now and I cant figure it out. It looks like the MAF plug but it runs from the abs unit area.

Possibly traction control related, but that shouldn't effect loadless reving.

Tried more gas and runs much better. It now only backfires when the motor bogs as I let the clutch out....like when I am trying to drive it up my steep hill at home....the rear bumper drags, lol
