Sounds like a fun project. I would go with the 650 mighty demon though. 750 will be overkill. I know from experience. Lets see some pics!

Sounds great man, i am trying to get the 89 RS back up in a month with a similar setup, i already have the vortecs and ported and polished them with studs. I am going to have them drilled to accept my ols bolt patern intake though.

Any guesses on what it'll run at 3400-3450lb raceweight?...On 26x 11.5 ET STREET and 4.10's outback.

Keep me informed. I've been watching your progress anyway. I've checked your cardomain a few times. Its too bad about them 292 Turbo castings. I seen all the crap you were catching about them not being that good. Ive seen 292's flow OVER 290cfm. Most guys on here just have NO CLUE! I'd love to see a vortec flow that. It could be done, but WHO is gonna do that.

a 650 mighty demon will still be overkill. you would be better off with a speed demon 600 or 650, call up barrygrant /demon and tell them what you have and what your intentions are. i bet they will say the 650 speed demon since the mighty demon hase different venturi, boosters, jetting etc

Some dont understand they are not stock, have you ever picked one of those up? Holy he;; they are heavy, they have so much casting to them. I wish i could flow test them but it would be for nothing now.

So I STILL dont have my beehives and retainers! DAMN IT! I wish this shit would pick up a little, Im ready! I got all of my exhaust, fuel pump, distributor, etc. Come on already Car Quest and TSP!

Any guesses on what it'll run at 3400-3450lb raceweight?...On 26x 11.5 ET STREET and 4.10's outback.

after i blew the 400 i kept everthing the same only with a 355 short block stock crank, rods, forged 2256's and it went 12.49 @ 108 so u should be a lil faster than that

moge11
03-31-2008, 07:06 PM
The 400 was THAT MUCH FASTER!????
What was the compression of the 355ci? Maybe I need a 383ci or a 406ci then....Damn! Thats quite a bit more than I thought. I am hoping to trap at least 110mph....I "Think" it could go 113 or so if I take out a little weight and all goes well. If all goes well at 3450 I think it could go 111-112 ish....This realistically where I hope to be....What do ya think???

04-03-2008, 02:26 AM
well it still had the 3.42's which hurt alot and it was about 10.1 ,I just wanted the car running and driving i was a bit disappointed also,

there was a 86 iroc with a 355 ,self ported vortecs,4.10's , rpm intake,compXE274,700r4 that went lo 12's@ around 110, his combo was better matched than mine

04-03-2008, 05:58 AM
my 91 RS when it had the 355 in it ran 11.89 @ 115, 4.10s, th350, 3800 stall, and 3175 race weight.

well crank is STILL at the machine shop. Im giving him 2 weeks then it will go somewhere else. And my titanium retainers are STILL on BACKORDER! I might just go with the steel retainers if I get my crank back soon and am STILL waiting on the titanium retainers.

Damn, moge, i am in your boat, been waiting on my block for 4 weeks, i have to pick it up FINALLY tomorrow, my rev kit, intake gaskets, hollry black fuel pump and header bolts are STILL not here... I still need to have my bigger springs installled on me heads too!

moge11
05-14-2008, 10:40 PM
im tryin the Procomp Blue pump. 60 bucks shipped to my door with regulator off ebay. Wysco billet distributor...60 bucks to my door. We'll see how this junk runs. I expect to dick with timing springs and weights but it all work out for little money if neither the distributor nor the pump take a shit. All new stuff. I only have 2300 invested in all of it including ALL of my my little parts so far. I dont need to spend but another 500 TOPS and I think thats stetching A LOT. Less than about 4500-5000 bucks for a car that WILL run elevens no problem after ported heads are finished and a GForce gear set and an 8.8 hybrid rear with probably a 4.30 gear.

ZONES89RS
05-14-2008, 11:07 PM
Sweet man, i ordered the pro comp "black" pump, still waiting on it(slow shipping muther f...) and i can only hope it is a decent part, i have a real holley blue but i thought,"Hell, for that price, i need the nextra fuel now." I will deffinatly be running my fuel pressure gauge up to the winshield of the car under the cowl to monitor pressure.

It could be done, but WHO is gonna do that.

I will be putting a set of 8mm LS1 valves w/beehive springs here in the near future, but first I have to clear a few other projects at the machine shop. I don't have a flow bench yet ($17,000 for the one I want), but I will see if I can run them to another machine shop that I know to be able to get some flow number's (his bench reads almost identical to AFR's). The heads were ported by the customer for his circle track car. :secret2:

moge11
05-15-2008, 06:56 AM
yeah...Im gonna add 2.05/1.60 valves ferrea valves with the 8mm stems....Thanx for that Bird.. I figure i might as well upgrade the guides and gain some flow while im there.

05-19-2008, 04:26 PM
Also, Comp 918's and Gm retainers will be here at the end of the week! Save myself $120 over the Precision Race Components Titanium retainers....TSP says they may never get them again.

God!...I wish I had a nice garage to work in. I could be that far a long too!
I got my engine in a storage shed, car going across the street to the neighbors....I need all of this at my house.

ZONES89RS
05-25-2008, 09:39 PM
Heh, yea. When i was looking for a house i was like, "Two car garage, enough room for a 60 gallon air compressor, a 4 wheeler, tools and some parts to lay around. I found what i was looking for. But, on that note, it is running, needs to be tuned badly but FUCK the damn thing wraps quick as hell, i thought the car torqued before, shit scared me. Here are some more pics...

moge11
05-25-2008, 11:35 PM
doing cam bearings at 9:00am tomorrow. Then gonna drop the crank in clean up rods and pistons, reintall them, get the heads cleaned up and installed and go from there depending on weather. Got to pull other motor out of the car.

ZONES89RS
05-26-2008, 02:22 AM
Damn, you are still behind a bunch of work ahead of you. Clearanceing the damn block took a bit of time from me, not to mention the Hooker headers took a bit to get them in. Nothing serious just some more time.

moge11
05-26-2008, 02:12 PM
Im not in a hurry with it. I want to make sure everything is right. I might still do some more shit, like mill the heads. Still undecided there.
I got the cam bearings in. I just need my rod bearings. My local parts store is closed today. They were there on Saturday, but I was rushing around for my brothers wedding. Tomorrow will be a good day if its not raining.

Sweet, i drove mine today, it runs great, i have the limiter set to 6000 and it hit that wanting to go further so i am going ot leave it at 6 for a while. I had no oil pressure and found it was the cheap ass "Faze" gauge was all, installed a cheap mech unit and it was all good, 50 @ idle and 90 lbs at revs above 3000.

moge11
05-26-2008, 08:38 PM
thats badass. Cant wait to hear what it runs at the track.

moge11
05-26-2008, 09:29 PM
how much horsepower do you think this should make? Its gonna be 9.7:1 compression, Lunati Hydraulic roller 232/242 .510/525" on 110lsa 106 icl.
ProProd airgap intake. 600 double pumper milled choke tower, dual snorkel aircleaner, Hedman 1-5/8 longtubes, 3" X-pipe w/ dynomax bullets, all through a T5 and 10 bolt til they break.
